They create copy for websites, emails, ads, social media, and other materials to engage audiences and drive action. They may collaborate with clients directly or through agencies, often managing multiple projects at once.

What does a contract copywriter do?

A typical workday for a Contract Copywriter often involves researching industry-specific topics, drafting and editing copy for various platforms such as websites, emails, or marketing materials, and communicating with clients or project managers to clarify project objectives. You may juggle multiple assignments from different clients, each with its own set of deadlines and content guidelines. Many contract copywriters work remotely and set their own schedules, allowing flexibility, but also requiring strong organizational skills to ensure timely delivery. Collaboration can happen via email, video calls, or project management tools, especially when coordinating with designers or marketing teams. This variety keeps the role dynamic and offers the chance to expand your portfolio with diverse writing projects.

Familiarity with content management systems, SEO tools, and project management platforms is often required to produce optimized and well-structured content. Strong time-management, communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills, as contract roles typically require balancing multiple clients and meeting tight deadlines independently. These abilities ensure high-quality deliverables, on-time project completion, and successful client relationships in a flexible, often remote work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Social Media Copywriter will support Future Caucus' communications team, producing polished, on-brand social media copy that amplifies the organization's video content, earned media coverage, and the stories of young lawmakers across the country. They will report directly to the Senior Manager, Digital Content.

This individual will play a key role in extending the reach of Future Caucus' content across X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. The role includes a focus on writing captions for video content, including identifying multiple social-friendly clips from long-form videos for staggered publication, and drafting posts that promote Future Caucus' earned media coverage, events, initiatives, and public engagements. The contractor may also contribute to the organization's newsletter and will have the opportunity to participate in organizational voice-development exercises alongside the communications team.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, versatile copywriter with a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to an organization's voice, producing publication-ready copy with limited revision. This position is best suited to an established professional who works independently, manages their own time effectively, and consistently delivers high-quality work on deadline. A working knowledge of U.S. politics at the federal and state level is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write social media captions for Future Caucus video content across X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, in alignment with the organization's brand voice and content calendar
  • Review long-form video content to identify short clips for social media
  • Draft social media posts promoting Future Caucus' earned media coverage
  • Contribute copy to the organization's newsletter as needed
  • Participate in voice-development exercises with the communications team to help refine and codify Future Caucus' brand voice
  • Ensure all copy adheres to AP style and Future Caucus style and brand guidelines
  • Coordinate with the Senior Manager, Digital Content on priorities, deadlines, and revisions; be generally available during core hours (10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. ET)
  • Perform other related duties as needed

  • A track record of producing clean, publication-ready copy that requires minimal editing
  • Excellent command of major style guides, with an emphasis on AP style
  • Genuine interest in and working knowledge of U.S. politics at the federal and/or state level
  • Self-directed and highly organized: you manage your own workload, hit deadlines without prompting, and communicate proactively
  • Experience with brand or voice development is a strong plus
  • Passion for bipartisan cooperation and cross-partisan dialogue

OUR VALUES

In 2020, Future Caucus unveiled a set of organizational value statements developed collaboratively by our team. This ethos represents what we believe in at Future Caucus, and what we have worked to establish during the last eleven years. These are the values we have set for ourselves, and what we see come to life through our legislators in our network, partners, and supporters:

  • Build Trust: Integrity in our relationships is fundamental — be reliable and follow through
  • Empower Others: Be empathetic — practice transparency and collaborate openly
  • Break Barriers: Climb it, go through it, or work around it — limits are challenges to overcome
  • Innovate Freely: Disruption leads to creative solutions — forge a new path forward
