Job description


This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Cost Controls Specialist to join their Project Controls team. This individual can sit in our WSP locations in either South Jordan UT or Reno NV.
Your Impact
  • Maintain the project's cost management system, tracking commitments, incurred costs, actuals, and accruals against the control budget.
  • Process budget transfers and approved changes, ensuring timely and accurate updates to the cost baseline.
  • Maintain the contingency drawdown log and support contingency management reporting.
  • Validate invoices and vendor cost data against purchase orders and contracts prior to approval.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports with variance analysis at the work package and project level.
  • Develop and maintain cost forecasts in coordination with discipline leads and support estimate-at-completion (EAC) reviews.
  • Ensure cost data is correctly coded and structured to integrate cleanly with the schedule and project reporting dashboards.
  • Support timely month-end close processes, ensuring cost data accuracy and auditability.
  • Collaborate with the scheduler and project leadership to align cost and schedule performance metrics under an earned value management (EVM) framework.

Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field or equivalent; AACE CCP/CEP or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of cost controls experience on large-scale mining, heavy civil, or EPCM projects.
  • Demonstrated experience tracking commitments, accruals, and forecasts using structured cost management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and variance analysis; experience with Power BI or equivalent reporting tools preferred.
  • PMIS: Familiarity with platforms such as Oracle Primavera Unifier, Procore, e-Builder, or similar cost management systems.
  • Strong understanding of invoice validation processes, purchase order management, and contract cost structures.
  • Experience with earned value management (EVM) methodologies and integration of cost data with scheduling systems.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to data accuracy and auditability.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $110,000-120,000
