CNA National is looking for software engineers who want to build smart, dependable technology that supports meaningful business outcomes. We are hiring across multiple levels—Software Engineer I, Software Engineer II, and Senior Software Engineer for our technology team in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This is an opportunity to contribute to business‑critical applications, collaborate with talented teammates, and help modernize the systems that support our operations, customer experience, and continued growth. Whether you are growing your technical foundation, ready to take on broader ownership, or prepared to lead complex engineering work, we want to meet you.

ABOUT THE ROLES

  • Software Engineer I

    • Builds core technical skills while developing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining application components with support from experienced engineers.

  • Software Engineer II

    • Takes on more independent development work, designs and delivers application features, resolves technical issues, and contributes meaningfully to project success.

  • Senior Software Engineer

    • Leads complex engineering work, shapes technical design decisions, mentors other engineers, and helps deliver scalable, secure, high-quality solutions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Build, enhance, test, implement, and support applications that help the business run efficiently and serve customers effectively.

  • Translate business and technical requirements into practical, reliable software solutions.

  • Write clean, secure, maintainable code that supports long‑term quality and performance.

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and production support.

  • Partner with engineers, business stakeholders, quality assurance, infrastructure, security, and other technology teams to deliver strong outcomes.

  • Contribute to Agile planning, estimation, sprint execution, and continuous improvement.

  • Document technical designs, application changes, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures.

  • Stay current with modern development practices, tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies that can improve delivery, reliability, and performance.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Hands‑on experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting business applications; required experience will vary by role level.

  • Strong understanding of software development concepts, object‑oriented programming, relational databases, and modern application architecture.

  • Experience with web, application, database, integration, and/or cloud technologies used in enterprise software development.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, research solutions, and explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

  • Collaborative mindset, ownership mentality, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality work.

  • For senior‑level candidates: proven experience leading complex technical work, mentoring engineers, influencing design decisions, and delivering scalable solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

  • Knowledge of secure coding practices, application performance, automated testing, CI/CD, and release management.

  • Experience supporting enterprise systems, modernizing legacy applications, or integrating applications with internal and external platforms.

  • Ability to understand business needs and recommend practical technical solutions.

  • Technical certifications or continued professional development in software engineering, cloud platforms, database technologies, or related disciplines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND LOCATION

All roles are based in our Scottsdale, Arizona office and follow a hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one day remote each week. Candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with local and cross‑functional teams.
