Schedule: 2nd Shift – Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM – 1:30 AM
Travel Requirement: 10%

Position Summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a skilled Milling Machine Machinist 2 to support the Tooling Department at the Palmdale, California facility. This position requires a highly experienced machinist capable of setting up and operating milling equipment, interpreting technical drawings, performing precision machining operations, and maintaining strict quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with CNC milling, CNC lathe operations, machining setups, and CNC programming while producing complex aerospace components to exacting tolerances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate horizontal and vertical milling machines to perform precision machining operations.

  • Perform machining tasks including compound angles, contours, boring, helical and spiral milling, serrating, gear cutting, spline cutting, and keyway operations.

  • Select, install, align, and adjust machine attachments, fixtures, tooling, and specialized equipment.

  • Plan machining sequences, determine required cuts, and establish setup methods.

  • Adjust speeds, feeds, and depth of cuts to meet engineering specifications.

  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, and manufacturing specifications.

  • Use precision measuring instruments and machinist hand tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.

  • Perform standard shop calculations and layout work.

  • Inspect completed parts and support quality control processes.

  • Follow statistical process control (SPC) procedures and manufacturing standards.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Required Qualifications
  • CNC Mill experience required.

  • CNC Lathe experience required.

  • Experience performing machine setups and determining machining sequences.

  • Experience with CNC programming, including Mastercam (MCAM) or equivalent.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.

  • Completion of formal apprenticeship, technical training, or equivalent machining experience.
