Contract Cleaners are often hired through cleaning companies for specific projects or contracts, focusing on specialized cleaning tasks. Janitors are usually employed directly by the organization to perform routine maintenance and cleaning duties. While both roles involve cleaning, Contract Cleaners typically work on a contractual basis with varied clients, whereas Janitors are employed full-time or part-time by a single employer for ongoing maintenance.

What are some common challenges faced by contract cleaners when working at multiple client sites?

Contract cleaners often encounter challenges such as adapting to different workplace environments, learning client-specific cleaning protocols, and managing time efficiently across multiple locations. Each site may have unique requirements, preferred cleaning products, or safety procedures, so flexibility and attention to detail are essential. Good communication with supervisors and clients helps ensure expectations are met and any issues are addressed promptly.

What are contract cleaners?

Contract cleaners are professional cleaning personnel or companies hired by businesses, organizations, or individuals to provide cleaning services on a contractual basis. They handle a range of tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sanitizing restrooms, and sometimes specialized cleaning like carpet or window cleaning. The terms of service, including frequency and scope of cleaning, are outlined in a formal contract. Contract cleaners are commonly used in offices, schools, hospitals, and commercial premises to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Cleaner, you need a solid understanding of cleaning techniques, attention to detail, and physical stamina, with some employers requiring basic safety training or certifications. Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, floor care equipment, and health and safety protocols is typically expected. Reliability, time management, and good communication help contract cleaners stand out when working independently or as part of a team. These skills and qualities ensure high standards of cleanliness, client satisfaction, and safe work environments.

What Are the Qualifications to Get a Job as a Contract Cleaner?

There are no formal educational qualifications to get a job as a contract cleaner. Most of the training and skills are learned on-the-job, including how to properly use and maintain equipment, techniques for cleaning various materials, and the correct way to store and use cleaning chemicals. Contract cleaners must pay attention to detail, work quickly and efficiently, and have a flexible schedule as cleaning may occur during nights or on weekends. ISSA, the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association provides certification that can be appealing to employers.

Job description

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we've expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine's Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a "Best Place to Work" in Southern California and one of INC.'s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

We're hiring a motivated Sales Operations Associate to bring structure, consistency, and momentum to how CompassX builds and grows client relationships. You'll be the one who ensures our business and relationship development efforts actually happen every week.

You'll help drive process improvement efforts and help grow our team's networks through smart, well-run outreach. It's a hands-on, high-visibility role with direct exposure to firm leadership and real ownership from day one.
What You'll Do
  • Keep our outreach and follow-up message cadences on track. You'll make sure client relationships, old and new, get consistent attention instead of falling through the cracks.

  • Design and run warm and cold outreach campaigns (LinkedIn, email) on behalf of our leadership team, helping them grow their professional networks without adding to their workload.

  • Take recurring administrative and sales-support work off our leaders' plates, including but not limited to: Scheduling, research prep, CRM upkeep, and follow-up drafting.

  • Help re-engage long-standing client relationships that haven't had recent attention, surfacing opportunities for our leaders to reconnect.

  • Support our client meetings calendar and post-meeting follow-up

  • Help drive campaigns to build awareness of our solution capabilities

  • Keep our CRM clean, current, and actually useful.

  • Manage administration of client MSP/VMS systems (SAP Fieldglass, Beeline), ensuring accuracy and timely response.

  • Coordinate end-to-end contractor onboarding and offboarding, including system setup and deactivation

  • Prepare and update Statements of Work (SOWs) and Master Service Agreements (MSAs)

What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in sales operations, marketing operations, executive/sales support, or an operations type role (new grads with the right instincts welcome to apply).

  • Excellent written communication. The ideal candidate is comfortable drafting outreach messages and internal executive communications.

  • Highly organized, reliable, and process-minded. You like building systems and keeping them running and have a strong attention to detail.

  • Comfortable using (or quickly learning) a CRM, LinkedIn, and AI-assisted productivity/outreach tools.

  • A confident and diplomatic communicator. You'll be reminding senior leaders to follow through on commitments, tactfully and persistently.

  • No existing client network or sales/closing experience required! We're looking for someone who can build and run a great system, not someone who already has a rolodex.

  • A consulting mindset - Genuinely interested in understanding companies, industries, and people-can connect dots naturally across people, process and technology.

  • Takes initiative without being asked, identifies opportunities, and moves work forward independently.

  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and translate it into clear, actionable insights ("so what" and "why now").

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, shifting priorities, and quickly learning new tools or approaches.

Why CompassX
  • A front-row seat to how a consulting firm builds its from the ground up. You'll help shape it, not just execute someone else's playbook.
  • Direct, regular access to firm leadership and real ownership over a function they depend on.
$20 - $28 an hour

The posted compensation range reflects the anticipated compensation for this opportunity. Depending on the role, client requirements, and business needs, compensation may be structured as a salaried position with bonus eligibility or as an hourly contract engagement (including 1099 independent contractor arrangements).

Final compensation and engagement type will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, market conditions, and the nature of the role.

Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX's focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won't just follow a path - you'll create one.
