Their main responsibility is to ensure that digital products, services, and environments comply with accessibility laws and standards, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). They often audit current accessibility practices, provide strategic guidance, and help implement inclusive processes across the company. Contract CAOs bring specialized knowledge and flexibility, making them an efficient solution for organizations that need leadership in accessibility but may not require a full-time, permanent executive for the role.

A Contract Chief Accessibility Officer typically oversees the organization’s accessibility strategy, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations like the ADA and WCAG. Daily tasks often include auditing digital products for accessibility, advising on inclusive design, and developing training for staff. Collaboration is key, as the officer regularly works with product, design, engineering, HR, and legal teams to embed accessibility into company processes and culture. They may also liaise with external vendors and advocacy groups to stay updated on best practices and emerging standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract chief accessibility officer, and why are they important?
