Job description

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of large-scale commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. This role is ideal for someone with experience in commercial electrical construction who is looking to build a long-term career in project management.

Working alongside experienced Project Managers and field leadership, you'll assist with project coordination, procurement, documentation, scheduling, budgeting, and field operations from project kickoff through closeout. Our projects include healthcare facilities, hospitals, higher education campuses, industrial facilities, and other complex commercial developments.

This is a collaborative, hands-on position that provides direct exposure to every phase of commercial electrical construction and offers a defined career path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager roles.

Responsibilities
  • Support commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and closeout documentation.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documents for accuracy and coordination.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, electricians, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors.
  • Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and project milestones.
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost tracking, forecasting, billing support, and budget management.
  • Attend project meetings, jobsite visits, and field coordination sessions.
  • Collaborate with BIM/VDC teams to identify design conflicts and support constructible installation solutions.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, meeting minutes, reports, and document control systems.
  • Help resolve field issues, procurement challenges, scheduling conflicts, and coordination questions to keep projects moving forward.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
  • Experience working for an electrical contractor, specialty contractor, or commercial subcontractor is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement processes, scheduling, and project documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction schedules.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working closely with project management teams and field personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several active projects.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit area.
  • Experience with healthcare, hospital, university, industrial, or other technically complex commercial projects is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Retirement savings plan with company contribution
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Vehicle allowance (where applicable)
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Clear advancement path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager positions
  • Opportunity to work on large, technically challenging commercial electrical construction projects
  • Stable, long-term career with a growing electrical contractor
