They conduct assessments such as Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), create individualized treatment plans, and often collaborate with other professionals and families. Unlike full-time employees, contract assessors are usually hired on a temporary or project-by-project basis, providing flexibility for both the assessor and the organization. Their primary role is to ensure that the behavioral interventions recommended are based on thorough, evidence-based assessments.

To thrive as a Contract BCBA Assessor, you need board certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA), strong knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), and experience conducting behavioral assessments. Familiarity with data collection software, assessment tools like the VB-MAPP or ABLLS-R, and compliance with HIPAA and billing systems is typically required. Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams are standout soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate assessments, effective treatment planning, and quality care for clients with behavioral needs.
