The Training Manager will report to the Manufacturing team and is responsible for managing and driving the manufacturing org staff development initiatives. This may include review and administration of new and existing training activities and programs, training needs assessments, team building events, and other organizational development goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operator Workforce Training

The Training Manager will lead the Training Department across 1st and Swing Shift, with ~7 direct reports: 1 Training Supervisor and ~6 Training Specialists. The role will work closely with HSE, HR, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to align training resources with production and business needs.

Key responsibilities and expected business outcomes include:

  • Establish structured technical training for new hires with little or no assembly experience.
  • Manage operator training, qualification, certification, and cross-training across both shifts.
  • Develop and maintain a skills/certification matrix to identify training and staffing gaps.
  • Increase the number of employees qualified across multiple processes to improve flexibility, especially for overtime and changing production demand.
  • Reduce dependency on individual SMEs and informal on-the-job training by standardizing training materials and qualification requirements.
  • Measure training effectiveness through employee performance, quality results, and post-training evaluations.
  • Identify skill gaps contributing to quality or productivity issues and coordinate corrective training with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering.
  • Partner with HR and Operations to develop appropriate recognition or incentive programs that encourage employees to become cross-trained and certified in additional processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of training programs using Lean/Six Sigma principles.

Organizational Development

  • Assess manufacturing department needs and recommend appropriate programs or organizational development initiatives by working with Hyve corporate training, lean training, and other teams.
  • Develop metrics to measure performance for direct labor workforce.
  • Work with HR and operations leadership to review conversion for contingent workforce.
  • Partner with direct labor leadership to review job roles, communicate career paths, and recommend training.
  • Partner with local colleges and community to promote and develop learning programs.
  • Recommend and coordinate activities to build and promote job satisfaction.
  • Report and monitor key staffing metrics including but not limited to:
    • Retention, Turnover, Time to Hire, Weekly number of starts and terms.
  • Provide recommendations to help improve retention, identify effective practices, and areas of improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, minimum 5+ years' experience in similar role.
  • Established analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong continuous improvement mindset to drive and identify improvement plans.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Expert knowledge and hands-on experience of training and development programs, instructions and curriculum design framework and proficiencies assessment.
  • Experience in fast paced environments with high volume of changes and business critical deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience working with contingent workforce a plus.
