Technical and Marketing Writer

Evolving Web

Montreal, QC • On-site

Full-time

Posted 22 days ago

Job description

Do you enjoy understanding complex problems and turning them into clear, compelling stories and solutions?

Evolving Web is looking for a strategic and versatile writer who can help us understand client needs, evaluate opportunities, and communicate the value of our work. You'll contribute to proposals and RFP responses, as well as case studies, technical content, company credentials, and other materials that showcase our expertise and impact.

This is not a proposal management or administrative coordination role. The emphasis is on research, analysis, solution development, and persuasive writing. You'll work closely with our leadership, business development, strategy, UX, design, and technical teams to understand complex requirements and turn them into thoughtful, tailored content.

We're looking for someone with approximately 4-6 years of experience who is an excellent writer, intellectually curious, comfortable with technical subject matter, and eager to grow their understanding of our industry and services. Experience in a digital agency, technology company, consulting firm, or professional-services environment is strongly preferred.

In your role as Technical and Marketing Writer, you will

  • Review RFPs and other opportunities to understand client needs, requirements, risks, gaps, and strategic fit
  • Summarize key requirements and provide insights that contribute to go/no-go decisions
  • Identify clarification questions, assumptions, dependencies, and potential solution approaches
  • Research clients, sectors, technologies, and relevant trends to strengthen our understanding and recommendations
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts to develop the recommended strategy, technical solution, methodology, work plan, and deliverables
  • Develop proposal themes and narratives that clearly communicate our understanding of a client's challenges, our approach, and the value we can provide
  • Write and edit executive summaries, project approaches, technical responses, team profiles, company credentials, and other proposal content
  • Develop compelling case studies that communicate client challenges, our approach, and measurable results
  • Interview colleagues, clients, and subject-matter experts to gather insights and turn them into strong written content
  • Translate technical concepts into accessible, engaging language for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Adapt and tailor existing content for different clients, sectors, audiences, and formats
  • Help maintain and continuously improve our library of proposal content, case studies, project descriptions, and company credentials
  • Deepen your understanding of Evolving Web's services, projects, technologies, clients, and sectors over time

What kind of skill set do you need to be successful in your role within the Evolving community?

  • Approximately 4-6 years of experience in technical, proposal, business, content, communications, or professional-services writing
  • Excellent written English, with the ability to write clearly, persuasively, and concisely
  • Strong research, analytical, interviewing, writing, and editing skills
  • The ability to understand complex or technical subject matter and communicate it clearly to different audiences
  • Experience interpreting detailed requirements, briefs, RFPs, or similar documents and transforming them into tailored written responses
  • The ability to synthesize information from multiple contributors and identify the strongest story, argument, or solution
  • Strong critical thinking and sound judgment; you're comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions when something is unclear
  • Excellent attention to detail without losing sight of the larger strategic objective
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with technical, creative, strategic, and business stakeholders
  • Good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple writing assignments and priorities

What kind of person usually gets along easily with us?

  • Someone who is naturally curious and wants to understand how things work before writing about them
  • Someone who enjoys learning about new technologies, industries, clients, and subject areas
  • A thoughtful writer who cares equally about accuracy, clarity, and persuasion
  • Someone who feels better work comes from a collaborative process
  • Not afraid to voice your opinion, ask questions, or recommend a different approach, while remaining open to input
  • Organized and able to work on several projects concurrently
  • Resourceful and comfortable working through ambiguity rather than waiting for all the answers to be provided
  • A strong team player who takes ownership of their work and is eager to continue developing their skills

Bonus for

  • Experience working at a digital agency, technology company, consulting firm, or other professional-services organization
  • A background in journalism, communications, science, technology, research, or another field that involves making complex information accessible
  • Experience writing case studies, technical content, thought leadership, white papers, or long-form content
  • An understanding of web design, UX, software development, or digital strategy
  • Knowledge of Drupal, WordPress, or other web technologies
  • Experience working with higher education, government, nonprofit, or public-sector organizations
  • Familiarity with public-sector RFPs or procurement processes
  • Written and verbal communication skills in French

Remote applications are welcome, although candidates based in Montreal are preferred. Remote applicants must be

  • Available during Montreal working hours
  • Comfortable using tools such as Slack to stay engaged with their team and contribute to the company culture
  • Strong self-managers and proactive communicators

What we Offer

  • Impact - Work on projects for prestigious organizations that impact the lives of tens of thousands of users every day
  • Challenge - Work on complex digital projects and help articulate solutions to meaningful client challenges
  • Learning & Growth - Develop your technical, strategic, and writing skills through collaboration with experienced specialists across disciplines

  • Ownership - Play an important role in shaping how we communicate our expertise, experience, and value
  • Culture - Join a collaborative team made up of people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and areas of expertise
  • Flexible hybrid - For candidates based in Montreal and its suburbs, this role follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days in the office and two days working remotely each week
