The Staff Attorney, Product is responsible for collaborating with their CTL to cast vision, provide direction, and lead ministry efforts within their area of influence to outcomes that further Life.Church’s mission and reach people for Christ.
What You'll Do
Support Product Compliance, Data Privacy, and Emerging Technology
  • Serve as primary legal contact for data privacy matters, including GDPR compliance, privacy policy updates, and cross-functional coordination on regulatory requirements.
  • Review product features and technical implementations, and advise product and engineering teams on legal requirements governing the processing of personally identifiable information (PII) and the adequacy of platform terms, to identify and mitigate privacy and legal risk.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on complex privacy questions and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Navigate risk acceptance decisions with relevant leadership and maintain supporting documentation of current risk positions.
  • Advise on legal and ethical frameworks for use of emerging technologies, like agentic AI, within the Church’s product ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with technical and product teams to develop and apply governance policies.
  • Review data compliance mechanisms in third-party tools and assist in vetting additional third-party resources.
  • Participate in security and penetration testing governance processes as a legal advisor.
Manage Content Licensing and Intellectual Property Processes
  • Negotiate, draft, and manage content license, collaboration, and partner agreements, including platform-specific licensing arrangements and content addenda.
  • Review and respond to intellectual property matters, including infringement complaints related to partner content and misuse of Church branding.
  • Advise on licensing implications for new platform features involving Church-owned and third- party content.
  • Manage trademark registrations and renewals for Life.Church and YouVersion, and advise on eligibility and filing strategy for new brand phrases and product names.
Participate in General Legal Research and Risk Mitigation
  • Leverage legal and non-legal research tools to analyze proposed initiatives and complex legal matters impacting the organization.
  • Apply critical thinking and sound judgment in making recommendations on legal and quasi-legal matters outside the product focus area as needed.
  • Monitor the broader legal and regulatory landscape to identify trends and new tools relevant to legal compliance and process improvement.
Skills Needed to Succeed
  • Ability to self‐motivate, make independent decisions, and problem-solve with innovation.
  • Effective at multi‐tasking and time management to meet deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy law, including GDPR and applicable U.S. privacy frameworks.
  • Experience with intellectual property law, including licensing, trademark, and copyright.
  • Ability to advise on emerging technology legal issues, including AI governance and platform compliance.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.
  • Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, and problem-solve with innovation.
  • Ability to manage outside counsel relationships and coordinate multi-party legal matters.
  • Juris Doctor with a license in good standing to practice law.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, with a focus on employment law preferred.
Benefits We Offer
