Content Proofreader information

What is a content proofreader?

Content Proofreaders are professionals who review written materials to identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. They ensure that content is clear, consistent, and free of mistakes before it is published or shared. Proofreaders often work on articles, marketing materials, websites, books, and other documents to maintain high-quality standards. Their attention to detail helps protect the credibility and professionalism of the organization or individual they work for.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a content proofreader?

To thrive as a Content Proofreader, you need excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with style guides (such as AP or Chicago), track changes in word processing software, and proofreading tools like Grammarly are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and clear communication help a proofreader excel in this role. These skills ensure error-free, polished content that meets quality standards and maintains a professional image for clients or employers.

How does a content proofreader typically collaborate with writers and editors during the content review process?

Content Proofreaders work closely with writers and editors to ensure the final content is polished and error-free. They often receive drafts from writers, carefully check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting issues, and suggest changes or corrections. Regular communication with editors helps clarify editorial guidelines and resolve any ambiguities. This collaborative process ensures consistency in tone and style across all content, and helps maintain high-quality standards within the team.

What is the difference between Content Proofreader vs Content Editor?

AspectContent ProofreaderContent Editor
Primary RoleReview and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style errorsRevise and improve overall content structure, clarity, and flow
Skills & CertificationsStrong language skills, attention to detail, style guides knowledgeEditing skills, content development, sometimes additional certifications
Work EnvironmentFreelance, publishing houses, media companiesPublishing, marketing agencies, content teams

While both roles focus on improving written content, a Content Proofreader primarily corrects language errors, whereas a Content Editor makes broader content improvements and structural edits. Proofreading is often the final step before publication, while editing involves more in-depth content development.

Department: Marketing

Location: Houston, TX; Wilmington, NC; Hybrid

Employment Type: Full-Time

Company Overview

We help customers achieve impactful, sustainable results with a commitment to safety, community, and environmental responsibility.

Position Summary

TransTech Group is seeking a talented Content Creator & Graphic Designer to join a dynamic, high-output marketing team supporting a multi-brand industrial organization.

This role calls for versatility, creativity, and comfort working at a brisk pace. Working under the direction of marketing leadership, the successful candidate will produce a steady volume of design and content work across multiple brands and formats — including sales presentations, marketing collateral, digital campaign assets, and trade show materials — often within compressed timelines.

This is an energetic, collaborative environment where creative work moves quickly from concept to market and high standards are the norm. It’s a great fit for professionals who enjoy variety and momentum in their work, and who can demonstrate — through a strong portfolio — a track record of delivering high-quality work efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design presentation decks, including sales presentations, capabilities overviews, and internal briefings that are polished, on-brand, and persuasive
  • Create graphic content across the full marketing mix, including brochures, one-page overviews, case studies, trade show graphics, signage, advertisements, infographics, email graphics, and social media assets
  • Produce and publish digital content in HubSpot, including landing pages, email campaigns, blog layouts, calls-to-action, and web graphics in support of demand generation initiatives
  • Assist with brand integration for newly acquired companies, supporting the refresh and unification of marketing collateral as the organization's family of brands grows
  • Apply brand standards consistently across eight-plus brands, adapting visual identity appropriately for distinct audiences and business units
  • Support the development of technical marketing content, working with subject matter experts and marketing leadership to communicate complex capabilities clearly
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, prioritizing effectively and delivering consistently against established deadlines
  • Contribute creative ideas to campaigns, product launches, and events
Required Qualifications
  • A professional portfolio of work. A portfolio demonstrating design and content creation work — such as presentations, print collateral, digital assets, or campaign materials — is required for consideration.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of HubSpot, or demonstrated ability to learn marketing automation platforms quickly; hands-on HubSpot experience is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Canva, including working within established brand kits and templates
  • Strong presentation design skills in PowerPoint and Canva
  • Two or more years of content creation and graphic design experience; B2B, industrial, manufacturing, or technical services experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently, producing quality work under tight deadlines without compromising accuracy or brand standards
  • Solid writing and editing fundamentals, with attention to detail in proofing copy as well as design
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at companies that have grown organically and through acquisition
  • Exposure to marketing in industrial services, manufacturing, energy, or engineered products
  • Photography, video editing, or motion graphics capabilities
  • Experience supporting trade shows and industry events
  • Familiarity with SEO fundamentals and content performance metrics
  • Copywriting and content narrative development skills, including the ability to craft clear, compelling messaging for campaigns, case studies, web pages, and sales materials
Competencies
  • A motivated professional who takes initiative and seeks out ways to contribute
  • An individual who treats deadlines as firm commitments
  • A creative professional who receives feedback constructively, revises efficiently, and maintains momentum
  • An organized multitasker who performs well with several concurrent projects in motion
  • A collaborative team member who brings energy, urgency, and professionalism to the team
Benefits Designed to Work for You
  • Free HSA health plan or traditional PPO
  • 401(k) with generous company match (Safe Harbor)
  • Dental, vision, and optional coverage like accident & critical illness insurance
  • HSA and FSA accounts to save on healthcare costs
  • Company-paid Life, Long Term Disability, and AD&D insurance
  • Confidential support for mental health, family matters, legal concerns, and more through our Employee Assistance Program
  • Discounts on gyms, shopping & entertainment
  • Health benefits kick in fast – first of the month after 30 days

Time Off
We offer a variety of paid time off options to support rest, wellness, and personal needs:

  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Bereavement Leave
