Content Management Intern information

What is a content management intern?

Content Management Interns are entry-level professionals or students who assist with organizing, creating, updating, and maintaining digital content for a company or organization. They often work under the guidance of content managers or marketing teams to ensure website or platform content is accurate, engaging, and up-to-date. Their responsibilities may include uploading articles, editing text, optimizing images, and helping with content strategy. This internship provides hands-on experience in content management systems (CMS), digital marketing, and communication skills.

What types of projects and tasks can a content management intern expect to handle on a daily basis?

As a Content Management Intern, you'll typically be involved in tasks such as uploading and organizing digital assets, updating website content, proofreading and formatting articles, and assisting with content scheduling. You may also help monitor analytics to track content performance and collaborate with writers, designers, or marketing teams to ensure content aligns with brand guidelines. This hands-on experience offers valuable exposure to content management systems (CMS) and an understanding of digital publishing workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a content management intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Content Management Intern, you typically need strong written communication, attention to detail, and basic knowledge of content creation or digital marketing, often supported by coursework in communications or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, basic HTML/CSS, and tools like Google Analytics is highly beneficial. Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset help interns excel in team environments and manage multiple projects. These skills are essential for ensuring the quality, consistency, and timely delivery of digital content in a fast-paced workplace.

Job description

If your camera roll is always full, you know your way around Reels and TikTok, and you'd rather be out in the community than sitting behind a desk all day, we may have the internship for you!
As a Community & Social Media Intern with the Athens Rock Lobsters, you'll help bring our brand to life both online and throughout the Greater Athens community. One day you could be creating behind-the-scenes content, and the next you could be covering a game, supporting a community event or helping with a mascot appearance. You'll capture the moments, stories and energy that connect the Rock Lobsters with our fans and our community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community & Social Media Intern supports the Athens Rock Lobsters' marketing and community engagement efforts through social media content creation, community outreach and game-day coverage. This position assists with developing and capturing digital content, supporting community events and team appearances, engaging with fans across social platforms and promoting the organization throughout the Greater Athens community. The role works across both digital and in-person channels to support consistent team visibility and fan engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Social Media Content Creation: Produce engaging daily content (Instagram Reels, TikToks, graphics, behind-the-scenes stories, live game updates) following team brand guidelines.
  • Community Outreach: Coordinate and attend community events, charity partnerships, mascot appearances, and team Education Day outreach initiatives.
  • Fan Engagement: Monitor and respond to social media comments, messages, and fan interactions to foster an active, enthusiastic online community.
  • Game Day Social Coverage: Capture real-time game action, fan reactions, theme-night activations, and corporate partner highlights during home games.
  • Grassroots Marketing: Help distribute promotional flyers, posters, and pocket schedules to local businesses, schools, and partner venues.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or Sports Management.
  • Active experience creating short-form video content (TikTok, Reels) and using graphics platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Enthusiastic personality with a strong passion for community engagement and fan experience.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to attend weekend/evening community events and game days.
  • Equipment & Software: Applicants must have reliable access to the equipment and software necessary to perform the core content-creation responsibilities of the position, including a capable smartphone and/or camera for photography and video, a computer suitable for editing content, and applicable editing/design software such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud. The Athens Rock Lobsters do not guarantee that equipment or software will be provided for this internship.
