Content Evaluation information

What is content evaluation?

Content evaluation is the process of assessing digital or written materials to ensure they meet specific quality, accuracy, relevance, and compliance standards. This role often involves reviewing articles, videos, websites, or social media posts to verify factual correctness, appropriateness for the target audience, and adherence to guidelines. Content evaluators help improve the overall quality of content published online or in print by identifying errors, inconsistencies, or biases. Their feedback is crucial for content creators, editors, and organizations aiming to maintain high standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a content evaluator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Content Evaluator, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in language and grammar, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in content editing or moderation. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), data annotation tools, and sometimes specific guidelines or certifications is essential. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and impartial judgment help evaluators provide balanced feedback and maintain content quality. These skills ensure that digital content meets established standards, aligns with organizational goals, and provides a positive user experience.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in content evaluation roles, and how can they be effectively managed?

Content Evaluation professionals often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of diverse content, maintaining objectivity, and staying updated with evolving guidelines. To effectively manage these challenges, it’s important to develop strong analytical skills, practice efficient time management, and stay in regular communication with team members and supervisors. Leveraging collaboration tools and participating in ongoing training sessions can also help ensure consistency and quality in evaluations, even as standards and content types change.

Muskegon County is seeking a detail-oriented Website Content and Quality Assurance assistant to help with the ongoing migration and review of content for a new county website.
This position will help ensure that information from the County's existing website is appropriately represented, organized, and maintained within a new content management system. The successful candidate will compare existing and new website content, identify missing information, improve content quality, and help ensure the website meets modern standards for usability, accessibility, and search engine optimization.

  • Edit and organize web content based on existing content, source materials, and project notes.
  • Complete and refine partially built pages as directed.
  • Learn and effectively utilize the CMS (training provided).
  • Review content for grammar, spelling, readability, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Evaluate website content from the perspective of residents, visitors, and other end users.
  • Apply SEO best practices to page structure, headings, and content organization.
  • Help identify and address accessibility concerns using WCAG-based best practices.

  • Basic understanding of websites and web navigation principles.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and incorporating revisions.
Ideal Candidate

  • Notices details that others miss.

  • Has strong spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Enjoys organizing and improving information.
  • Can learn new systems quickly.
  • Thinks critically about how people use websites.

  • Can balance consistency, usability, accessibility, and resident needs when evaluating content would be a plus.

  • Accessibility and usability best practices.
