Owned & Earned Sr. Associate

Dollar Shave Club

Durham, NC • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Posted 18 days ago

Job description

ABOUT DSC:
In 2011, Dollar Shave Club didn't just disrupt the shaving industry - we revolutionized it. A viral video sensation, an irreverent brand voice, and a direct-to-consumer model that bulldozed age-old industry giants. We made shaving not suck. We cut the unnecessary BS that had been upsold to guys for decades. And we kept making great products that actually worked.
Today, Dollar Shave Club is bigger than blades. We have expanded into a full personal care portfolio - skincare, hair, body, and now a dedicated Women's line - and we're present in tens of thousands of retail doors globally. The same disruptive DNA that launched us is now driving our next chapter: a brand that stands for great products, at a great price, for everyone.
Stop wasting time not working for us. Come join the Club.
ROLE SUMMARY:
We're looking for an Owned & Earned Sr. Associate to own the voice of Dollar Shave Club everywhere our brand shows up without a media dollar behind it - organic social, community, influencer, PR, and the non-traditional channels where culture actually happens. This is the role responsible for what people think and feel about Dollar Shave Club before they ever see a paid ad. You won't just program that voice - you'll help create it, concepting and producing the short-form video, film, and organic content that carries it. You keep the brand culturally current across our social channels, fluent in what's trending across platforms and fast enough to react
This seat lives at the top of the funnel - not as a support function for performance marketing, but as the engine of awareness and brand equity that makes everything downstream work harder. You'll also be our ear to the ground: closest to how members and prospects actually talk about us, and responsible for routing that signal back into the brand.
You'll partner closely with Creative, Brand, and our DTC and Performance Marketing team, and work hand-in-hand with our PR agency and creator roster. This role reports to the Associate Creative Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Owned & Earned Sr. Associate owns five areas of accountability, all in service of one goal: growing awareness and brand equity at the top of the funnel while keeping a finger on the cultural pulse. These responsibilities include:
Owned Brand Voice, Content & Social
  • Own the organic and owned social voice, content calendar, and publishing across all brand-owned channels, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X
  • Run community management - comments, DMs, and reviews - in a consistent, irreverent Dollar Shave Club voice
  • Identify and activate the non-traditional and emerging channels where our audience actually spends attention, keeping Dollar Shave Club present in cultural moments in a way that feels native, not forced
  • Grow top-of-funnel awareness and brand equity as the primary measure of success - not last-click conversion
  • Concept, produce, and edit content - short form video, film, and social-native formats - for organic and paid owned channels, from scrappy same-day reactive posts to bigger organic brand moments.
  • Stay on trend and move fast - spot trending formats, sounds, and moments across social, and react in real time so DSC shows up

Earned Media & PR
  • Partner with our PR agency to shape strategy and manage execution - media relations, press moments, product announcements, and reactive/newsjacking opportunities
  • Protect and grow our share of voice and earned reach across the personal care conversation

Influencer & Creator
  • Own influencer end to end - sourcing, briefing, negotiation, activation, and measurement
  • Build and manage a creator roster aligned to the brand and to top-of-funnel awareness goals
  • Make sure every piece of influencer content sounds like Dollar Shave Club, not like a generic brand deal
  • Collaborate with creators on content production - from concept and briefing through to the finished cut - so the work lands native to the platform and is unmistakably us.

Consumer Listening & Signal-Back
  • Run always-on social listening - sentiment, conversation, emerging trends, and competitive chatter
  • Synthesize member and prospect feedback and route it back to the brand team on a regular cadence
  • Serve as the brand's early-warning system for risk and its radar for organic opportunity

Measurement & Reporting
  • Define and own the owned/earned scorecard - awareness, engagement, earned reach and impressions, share of voice, sentiment, and influencer performance

REQUIREMENTS:
Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • 4+ years in organic/owned social, community management, influencer, PR, or earned media - brand-side experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record building and growing brand-owned social channels and creator programs from the ground up
  • Hands-on experience managing PR agencies and/or running influencer partnerships end to end
  • Hands-on experience producing short-form video and film content - concepting, shooting, and/or editing for paid and organic social media, with examples/a portfolio to share
  • Experience with social listening tools and turning raw consumer signal into brand recommendations
  • Background in DTC, CPG, personal care, or a culturally-driven consumer brand strongly preferred
  • Comfortable operating as the sole owner of a function - building process and systems where none exist

Skills & Capabilities
  • A killer instinct for brand voice - you can write and edit in a bold, irreverent, unmistakably DSC tone
  • Cultural fluency - you see where attention is moving before it's obvious, and know how to show up without trying too hard
  • Strong editorial and content judgment across formats, platforms, and creators
  • Hands-on content creation chops - you can concept, shoot and edit short-form video (or give direction to those who do) and know exactly what makes something scroll stopping
  • Ability to synthesize messy qualitative signal - comments, DMs, reviews, coverage - into clear, actionable insight
  • Fluent in owned and earned metrics - awareness, share of voice, sentiment, engagement, earned reach - and skeptical of vanity numbers
  • Excellent communicator and cross-functional partner who can brief creators, agencies, and executives with equal ease
  • Self-starter with a strong bias to action who thrives in a fast-moving, test-and-learn environment

POSITION TYPE:
This is a full-time exempt position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is in-office, working out of our HQ in Durham, North Carolina 4x a week.
SALARY:
$88,000-$103,000 + Bonus
BENEFITS:
  • Comprehensive benefit plans with low premium options, including medical, dental and vision coverage, along with supplemental coverage options
  • Free life insurance, short term disability and long term disability
  • 401(k) plan with a company match of 100% of the first 2%, and 50% of up to an additional 4% with no vesting period
  • Unlimited vacation and generous sick time
  • Half day Fridays year-round (subject to business needs)
  • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • 4 weeks of fully paid disability leave
  • Free Dollar Shave Club Products
  • Monthly cell phone stipend

APPLICATION PROCESS:
All applications must be submitted via our Applicant Tracking System, Greenhouse, in order to be considered. Once you submit your application, the recruiting team will review your submission and will reach out if your skill sets and/or qualifications match our needs.
