What is a content creator?

A Content Creator is a professional who produces engaging and relevant material for digital platforms, such as blogs, social media, websites, or video channels. Their work can include writing articles, creating videos, designing graphics, or producing podcasts to attract and engage audiences. Content Creators often tailor their material to suit the target audience and platform, using creativity and strategy to achieve marketing or communication goals. They may work independently or as part of a larger marketing or media team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a content creator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Content Creator, you need strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities, often supported by experience in digital media or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, SEO tools, and basic graphic or video editing software is typically required. These skills are essential for producing engaging, high-quality content that drives audience growth and meets organizational goals.

What are some common challenges content creators face when managing multiple projects or platforms?

Content Creators often juggle several projects and platforms at once, which can make time management and consistency challenging. Balancing the unique requirements of each channel—such as adapting tone, format, and posting frequency—requires strong organizational skills. Additionally, staying up-to-date with trends and algorithms while meeting deadlines can be demanding. Collaborating effectively with designers, marketers, and other team members is key to ensuring cohesive and high-quality output across all platforms.

Job description

The Content Creator is responsible for shooting and editing compelling content that brings the Free Fly brand to life across multiple platforms and formats. Working closely with the broader Content Team, this person is a multimedia storyteller at heart — equally comfortable shooting high-quality brand content on a professional camera and capturing social-first moments on an iPhone. They have a genuine passion for content, a sharp eye for what performs on social, and the range to shoot and edit everything from short-form video and carousels to branded edits and vlogs.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit a wide range of content formats including social reels, carousels, web product education videos, vlogs, braded edits, fish and surf clips, and brand stories
  • Collaborate closely with the Social Media Manager and broader Content Team to understand creative vision and deliver content that aligns with channel strategy, campaign objectives and brand standards
  • Serve as a true creative partner to the Social Media Manager, working closely to bring to life Free Fly’s social strategy and vision through various styles of edits and content
  • Operate camera and related production equipment on location and in studio, including lighting and audio setup, to capture high-quality footage for a variety of content types
  • Shoot across a range of formats — from professional cameras for high-quality brand and product education content to iPhone for social-first, in-the-moment storytelling — adapting style and approach to suit the content type and platform
  • Edit footage from both internal productions and external creative partners, applying color correction, sound design, motion graphics, and platform-specific formatting to deliver polished, channel-ready assets
  • Stay current on social media trends, platform formats, and content best practices to ensure content is optimized for performance across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other key channels
  • Execute quick-turn and same-day edits as needed, with the ability to move fast without compromising quality or brand standards
  • Manage and organize all footage and digital assets, maintaining a clean, well-structured library for efficient team access and long-term archiving
  • Deliver all final assets on time and to spec, ensuring quality and consistency across every platform and distribution channel
  • Travel as needed for shoots, events, and community opportunities, bringing the same creative energy and production quality on the road as in the office and studio

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in a content creation, videography, or multimedia production role, ideally within an outdoor brand, agency, or creative studio
  • Proficiency in video editing software including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro; experience with photo editing tools such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop a plus
  • Experience operating cameras and production equipment across a range of shooting environments, including studio, lifestyle, and outdoor/adventure settings
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of content formats
  • Ability to shoot stills and photography a plus

Required Competencies

  • Deep passion for multimedia storytelling with a strong personal point of view and an instinct for what resonates on social media
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and consistently deliver on time
  • Versatile creative range — able to shift fluidly between polished brand filmmaking and raw, authentic social-native content
  • Collaborative team player who communicates clearly, takes direction well, and brings positive energy and creative initiative to every project
