Job Description:
The Social Media Strategist role at Ocean State Job Lot ("OSJL" and "Company") spearheads the strategy, execution and performance of the Company's social media channels. This highly-visible role works closely with the Company's Creative, Merchandising, Product, and Digital Advertising teams to execute OSJL's organic social strategy, build brand affinity, and highlight OSJL's key differentiators. The Social Media Strategist ensures that OSJL remains relevant and authentic by delivering timely, results-oriented digital marketing content.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Strategy & Content Management
  • Refine and execute OSJL's organic social media strategy.
  • Drive the development of content that reinforces key brand values, differentiators, and product and messaging priorities. Ensure that content is published accurately and timely across all platforms, and that budgets for boosted content campaigns are adhered to.
  • Own the creation and management of monthly content calendars that drive promotional and merchandising opportunities as well as participation in audience-relevant moments and trends.
  • Monitor competitors and industry trends, reporting on best practices and opportunities to inform content and channel direction.

Content Collaboration & Creation
  • Collaborate with the Company's Digital Marketing and Creative teams on repeatable, scalable, and impactful content ideas that align with business priorities.
  • Develop briefs for campaigns, larger social moments, and promotional launches.
  • Collaborate with the Copy team to write clear, engaging social copy that reflects OSJL's tone and personality.
  • Partner with the Company's Creative team to bring campaigns and content concepts to life.
  • Capture in-store footage and content to support the Company's social calendar and content strategy.

Community, User-Generated-Content (UGC), and Influencer Management
  • Manage community engagement across all platforms to ensure consistent brand communication.
  • Identify and surface recurring customer themes to internal teams as part of regular reporting and share-outs.
  • Drive user-generated content opportunities and campaigns, engaging and activating audiences.
  • Oversee the end-to-end execution of influencer and content creator campaigns, including talent selection, briefing, and adherence to budget.

Reporting & Insights
  • Track and socialize weekly and monthly performance across platforms using in-platform reporting tools.
  • Analyze, provide clear insights, and take informed actions against engagement trends, content performance, and audience behaviors.
  • Test, measure, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitor platform ad libraries and trend tools to stay informed on platform shifts and competitive activity.
  • Partner with the Digital Advertising team to identify opportunities to amplify high-performing content and actively engage in paid digital media strategy.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field is required
  • 4 or more years of experience managing social media for a brand or organization required, preferably within the retail or consumer brand industries.
  • Experience with social media scheduling and reporting tools is required
  • Video editing experience and design knowledge is required.
  • Familiarity with paid digital marketing and performance marketing is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google platform (e.g., sites, slides, drive, docs, sheets).

Work Environment:
  • Works primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard
    potential.
  • Works in an office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
