Position Title Social Media & Creative Content Specialist Position Summary
Spelman College's Social Media and Creative Content Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing and tracking effective, high-yield social media content that meets the College's marketing targets and advances the strategic narratives and goals of the College. The role creates compelling, audience-appropriate, multi-channel, contemporary videos, photos and content that engage and build relationships with target audiences (prospective students, current students, alumnae, donors, faculty, staff, parents, media and government officials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designs social media strategies to achieve communications and marketing strategic initiatives.
  • Develops new video content strategies and initiatives to support the division's strategic priorities and editorial themes.
  • Management of all the College's official social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc) and the Spelman President social media accounts ensuring up-to-date content and active engagement.
  • Collaborates with members of the Division of Communications and External Relations team to ensure content is informative and appealing.
  • Collaborates with team members to manage and promote the College's podcast by planning episodes, writing engaging social media posts, and growing the listener community across all online platforms.
  • Collaborates with student groups and campus student influencers to identify social 'buzz' regarding new initiatives and activities.
  • Prepares monthly and annual analytics reports on social traffic/metrics, highlighting issues of importance to the College.
  • Monitors social media platforms for user engagement, risk management and content optimization.
  • Researches digital trends and maintains active content calendars aligned with strategic communications and marketing goals.
  • Stays up-to-date with new digital technologies and social media best practices.
  • Provides social media guidance and strategies and collaborates with campus partners to develop and execute social and visual media content for their respective divisions, offices, programs and/or initiatives to elevate the Colleges strategic priorities, including but not limited to Academic Affairs and the Office of the Provost, fundraising initiatives for the Division of Institutional Advancement's annual campaigns; admissions related events and activity for Division of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and Technology Services.
  • Manages and trains the College's student social media ambassador team and interns as they assist in social and visual media content creation.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of directly-related experience required. Must know the language, vernacular, specifications and requirements of the social sphere and have a deep understanding of social media tools. The incumbent will periodically be required to work outside of normal business hours to support visibility for major College events (e.g., commencement, inauguration events, etc.) and response to crises.
Independent judgment and attention to detail is necessary to plan, prioritize and execute brand management via social media marketing. Reputation and crisis management is a facet of this role, and the strategist is responsible for monitoring social media and providing metrics on issues of importance to the College. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, students, alumnae, other College constituents and the public.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be experienced in creating and executing social media campaigns in Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram. The incumbent must have the ability to perform basic level skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Must be able to conduct Internet research, and experience with Google analytics, email systems and a variety of electronic communication tools is preferred. In addition to producing correspondence, memos, and e-mails, duties may involve assignments that require creating spreadsheets or brochures.
