The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 per year inclusive of applicable bonuses and commensurate with experience. Summary/Objective: The Customer Quality Engineer is responsible for investigation and defining root cause and corrective actions for customer quality problems. They are responsible for the communication to the customer regarding containment activities, data gathering, customer updates, and corrective action reports.

 Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer concerns and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner
  • Work with other departments to establish containment, root cause, and corrective actions on customer concerns
  • Work directly with customers via telephone, email, or other to resolve quality issues
  • Work with customers, Samtec associates, and 3rd parties globally to resolve customer quality issues; this may require domestic and international travel and off-hours communications
  • Investigate customer issues and write corrective action reports as requested based on system-established or customer-requested due dates.
  • Educate other groups as needed in regard to inspection, rework or new processing details
  • Provide backup within the Customer Quality Department 
  • Provide input to engineering groups about quality issues and history in order to improve existing or new designs
  • Work within the established guidelines as defined by the quality system, Corporate Procedures, and Work Instructions etc. 
  • Work to protect Samtec and our customers from ongoing quality issues 
  • Plan, schedule, and execute Internal audit activities for Colorado Springs facility per company audit scheduling system
  • Manage on-site customer and compliance audits as needed

** The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position. Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities. **

    Required Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years experience in a customer quality engineering role
    • Experience in product, process, or tooling design, development, failure analysis or customer application review.
    • Experience in the connector industry is a plus.
    • Experience in designs that include Progressive Stamping, Injection Molding, soldering, and Plating is preferred.
    • Cursory knowledge in Signal Integrity is a plus.
    • Problem solving and experience in corrective action techniques like, but not limited to, 5-Why's, the 8D process, Fish-bone approach, various statistical tools and brainstorming
    • ISO 9001 compliance and internal/external auditing is a plus
    • Lifting Requirements: Medium Work - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
    • Must be able to sit for more than 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
    • Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions: Must be willing to adhere to department safety rules and regulations.

    Preferred Education:

    • Minimum two-year degree in a technical field like mechanical engineering or an equivalent.
    • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field is preferred.
