What does a container yard manager do?

A Container Yard Manager oversees the operations of a container yard, ensuring that shipping containers are efficiently received, stored, and dispatched. They manage staff, coordinate with logistics and shipping companies, and ensure safety protocols are followed. To thrive as a Container Yard Manager, you need expertise in logistics operations, inventory management, and safety regulations, usually supported by a bachelor’s degree in logistics or supply chain management. Familiarity with yard management systems (YMS), terminal operating systems (TOS), and relevant health and safety certifications are typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you coordinate teams and handle operational challenges.
