Welder / Fabricator – Hamilton Container Services

As a Welder/Fabricator at Hamilton Container Services, you will work hands-on in the modification, repair, fabrication, and complete build-out of shipping containers for commercial and industrial applications.

This is not strictly a welding position. Our team handles a wide range of fabrication and construction work, including steel fabrication, framing, insulation, paneling, caulking, sealing, doors, windows, and other custom modifications. You should be comfortable working with both metal fabrication and general construction tasks.

Projects may include custom offices, storage units, equipment enclosures, mobile workspaces, specialty containers, and other custom-built container applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding and general steel fabrication
  • Cut, grind, fit, and weld structural steel and container components
  • Perform steel and wood framing
  • Install insulation in walls and ceilings
  • Install interior wall and ceiling paneling
  • Perform caulking, sealing, and weatherproofing
  • Install steel man doors, roll-up doors, windows, vents, and other components
  • Cut and prepare openings in shipping containers
  • Fabricate custom steel framing, brackets, supports, and other components
  • Perform general carpentry and interior build-out work
  • Repair damaged shipping containers and structural components
  • Read measurements, drawings, and basic fabrication plans
  • Operate welders, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, torches, drills, and other shop equipment
  • Ensure finished work is clean, strong, properly fitted, and completed to company standards
  • Work with the shop team to complete projects efficiently and on schedule
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, versatile, and willing to work on different parts of a project. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, can accurately measure and fabricate components, and is comfortable moving between welding, fabrication, framing, insulation, paneling, caulking, and general construction work.

Previous welding or fabrication experience is preferred. Experience in construction, carpentry, structural steel, trailers, shipping containers, or commercial fabrication is a plus.

Hamilton Container Services specializes in shipping container modifications, custom fabrication, repairs, and complete container build-outs throughout the Chicagoland area. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of custom projects rather than performing the same repetitive fabrication every day.
