About the role
The Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor leads, directs, and coordinates the activities of maintenance mechanics who repair, maintain, and service a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role ensures safe work practices, supports preventive maintenance programs, prioritizes repairs to maintain fleet uptime, and provides hands-on technical leadership. The Maintenance Supervisor balances supervisory responsibilities with active participation in maintenance work when needed and supports daily operational demands. Flexibility is required to work 40+ hours per week, with occasional weekend coverage as operational needs arise.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and supervise maintenance systems and processes, including preventive maintenance, safety practices, and standard operating procedures
  • Lead a team of maintenance mechanics across multiple skill levels, providing coaching and hands-on guidance
  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance and repairs in coordination with operations to support daily fleet availability
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of diesel trucks, trailers, construction equipment, roll-off containers, and yard equipment
  • Perform hands-on mechanical work as needed to support complex repairs or urgent downtime issues
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment history
  • Provide regular updates and status reports to operations and site leadership
  • Train mechanics on proper maintenance methods, diagnostics, and safety procedures
  • Manage shop organization, parts inventory, tools, and equipment readiness
  • Coordinate welding support and external vendors or OEMs for specialized or major repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement short-term fixes and long-term solutions
  • Support the development of maintenance KPIs related to uptime, reliability, and efficiency

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience with heavy trucks, trailers, and equipment
  • Previous supervisory or lead mechanic experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, including Caterpillar and Cummins platforms
  • Experience in maintaining trailers and fleet vehicles required
  • Comfortable serving as a working supervisor and stepping into repairs when needed
  • Ownership of personal mechanical tools required
  • Welding experience a plus
  • Experience from large fleet operations, intermodal environments, or equipment rental companies preferred
  • Strong safety awareness, reliability, and work ethic
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance, tracking, and communication

Certifications
  • 40 Hr HAZWOPER
  • Ability to pass the Respirator Fit Test

Pay Transparency

It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.
The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $76,000.00 - $101,100.00 USD per annum
