Job description

CERTIFIED STERILE PROCESSING TECHNICIAN

Department:  Sterile Processing

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Midnight Shift, 10:30pm - 7:00am, Monday - Friday with rotating weekends

Hospital: Henry Ford St John Hospital

Location: Detroit, MI

Sign on bonus: $7,500

  GENERAL SUMMARY:
  • Inspects, assembles and evaluates all surgical instruments and instrument sets to ensure quality, determine need for repair/replacement, validates completeness of set, and facilitates effective sterilization. 
  • Responsibilities: Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers and equipment according to instructions for use (IFUs) and established protocols.
  • Corrects instrument sets according to current standards, established count sheets and/or instrument tracking systems.
  • Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts.
  • Performs regular quality assurance program audits of peers.
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
    • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.  
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 
    • Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • 1-year of sterile processing experience as an SPD technician preferred.
