Job description

Food Service Worker

* This position includes Health Insurance *

Perform a variety of food service duties to fill in for absent or vacant positions including the preparation, cooking, heating, and serving of hot and cold food items; perform cashiering duties as assigned; maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; perform a variety of food services, accounting, inventory, promotional and financial record keeping duties.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to perform assigned duties. Incumbents must possess a valid Indiana driver's license.

1. Prepare and serve food items at an assigned school site or in support of satellite food service operations according to assignment; assemble various ingredients; heat, package and wrap food items according to established procedures and portion control standards.

2. Set up food service area; prepare and set out food and beverages for sale and distribution; distribute meals to students and staff; set-up trays and utensils; stock condiments, food items, paper goods and other supplies as needed.

3. Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition according to HACCP standards; clean serving areas, counters, tables, food containers, refrigerators and food service equipment; operate dish washers and wash trays, pots, pans, plates, utensils and other serving equipment as assigned.

4. Perform cashiering duties as assigned; assure students take all necessary meal components; collect and count money and make correct change; prepare, balance and verify cash boxes; operate a cash register and point-of sale system as required; maintain related records.

5. Prepare entrees, fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, desserts and other assigned foods for distribution as needed; cook food items as assigned; mix, slice and chop food items as assigned; assist in assuring proper temperature of foods; open cans and replenish containers as necessary.

6. Monitor inventory levels of food items and service supplies; assist with ordering and assuring adequate levels of food items and supplies in accordance with established procedures; receive and verify accuracy of food and supply deliveries; move, store and rotate food items and supplies.

7. Operate standard food service equipment such as ovens, slicers, food carts, can openers and warmers; drive a vehicle to various District sites to fill in for absent or vacant positions.

8. Maintain routine records related to assigned activities.

9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

New employees must successfully complete their probationary period to be eligible to apply for posted positions. Employees must remain in their current position a minimum of sixty (60) calendar days to be eligible to apply for any non-lateral posted position. Current non-probationary employees may only apply for lateral positions at the end of each school year.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to stand for extended periods of time. Performing assigned duties which require bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. The employee will be required to push/pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include seeing to monitor food quality and quantity.
