STATEMENT OF THE JOB
The City is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and customer-focused Part-Time Pet Crematory Operator/Driver to assist with the daily operation of the municipal pet crematory. This position supports crematory operations, responds to pet removal requests, transports pets safely and respectfully, and provides exceptional customer service to grieving pet owners and veterinary partners. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, empathy, attention to detail, follows chain of custody procedures, and the ability to work respectfully with deceased animals and their families during difficult times.
Starting Pay Range: $18.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a part-time position up to 29 hours per week with no additional benefits.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Crematory Operator with daily crematory operations and facility duties.
  • Safely operate cremation equipment in accordance with established procedures, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to pet removal and transportation requests from veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and private residences.
  • Transport deceased pets with dignity, care, and professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation and records throughout the cremation process.
  • Prepare pets and cremation containers for processing according to established protocols.
  • Process cremated remains and prepare memorial products, urns, and keepsakes as requested.
  • Communicate compassionately and professionally with pet owners, veterinary staff, and members of the public.
  • Provide exceptional customer service as the highest priority of the position.
  • Answer phones, schedule removals, and assist customers with service inquiries.
  • Assist with facility cleaning, equipment maintenance, and general housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain City vehicles and ensure safe operation during transportation assignments.
  • Follow all City policies, safety procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Minimum Qualifications
โ€ข High school diploma or GED.โ€ข Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.โ€ข Ability to safely lift and move animals and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with assistance when necessary.โ€ข Ability to work independently and as part of a team.โ€ข Strong customer service and communication skills.โ€ข Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations.โ€ข Comfortable working around deceased animals and cremation equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
