Consumer Insight Research information

What is consumer insight research?

Consumer insight research is the process of gathering and analyzing data about consumers’ behaviors, needs, motivations, and preferences to help businesses make informed decisions. This research uses a variety of methods, such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and data analytics, to uncover patterns and trends in consumer behavior. The insights gained enable companies to tailor their products, services, and marketing strategies to better meet the needs of their target audiences and improve customer satisfaction.

How does a consumer insight researcher typically collaborate with marketing and product development teams?

Consumer Insight Researchers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between customers and internal teams. They work closely with marketing to tailor campaigns based on consumer behavior and preferences identified through research. Additionally, they collaborate with product development to inform new features or products, ensuring offerings align with real customer needs. Regular meetings, presentations, and data-driven workshops are common ways these collaborations occur, making strong communication skills essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consumer insight researcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consumer Insight Researcher, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in market research methodologies, and typically a degree in marketing, psychology, or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as SPSS, Qualtrics, or Tableau, as well as experience designing and interpreting surveys, is essential. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and curiosity help researchers translate data into actionable insights and effectively share findings with stakeholders. These skills and qualities are crucial for generating meaningful consumer insights that drive strategic business decisions.

What is the difference between Consumer Insight Research vs Consumer Data Analyst?

PURPOSE

The Consumer Insights Manager supports VASA Fitness's growing Consumer Insights function by owning the platforms, programs, data, and deliverables that bring consumer research to life across the business. This role designs and executes qualitative and quantitative research, maintains active listening and member community programs, ensures data quality, and translates findings into clear, actionable insights. Working closely with the Director of Consumer Insights and cross-functional partners, the Consumer Insights Manager helps scale the function and strengthens how consumer insight informs marketing strategy, operations, product launches, and long-term planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES AND COMPETENCIES
  • Design and execute qualitative and quantitative research programs, including questionnaire development and methodologies such as conjoint, MaxDiff, concept testing, panel studies, and member community discussions.
  • Build, maintain, and quality-assure survey programs in VASA's Voice of Customer (VoC) platform, including logic, triggers, distribution, and data management.
  • Own response coding, open-text quality assurance, and data integrity across active listening programs.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of VASA's member insights community, including member recruitment, study design and execution, and translation of community output into usable findings.
  • Support brand tracker wave execution through panel coordination, questionnaire updates, and wave-to-wave analysis.
  • Monitor social listening signals and synthesize findings into regular reporting that complements structured VoC programs.
  • Proactively track consumer and fitness industry trends and surface relevant market context that enriches primary research findings.
  • Synthesize research findings into clear, draft-ready deliverables, including research summaries, presentations, and data pulls for cross-functional partners.
  • Partner closely with CRM, data, and analytics teams to connect behavioral data with attitudinal insights, including using Databricks to pull, validate, and enrich research datasets.
  • Support creative and product decisions through structured concept and copy testing.
  • Partner with the Director of Consumer Insights to develop AI-assisted research workflows, including prompt-driven synthesis, automated survey logic, and repeatable processes that reduce time from data to decision.
  • Coordinate research vendors and manage timelines, deliverables, day-to-day relationships, and work within established budgets.
  • Manage research projects and cross-functional requests in Asana, maintaining visibility to timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of experience in consumer insights, market research, or a related field.
  • Hands-on Qualtrics experience, including survey programming, logic builds, and data management.
  • Familiarity with online research communities or member panels; direct experience managing a community or panel is strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working with social listening tools.
  • Strong data hygiene and quality-assurance skills, with the ability to identify and resolve data issues before they affect downstream work.
  • Curiosity about AI and its impact on research workflows; experience using AI tools for synthesis, reporting, survey design, or integration into research technology stacks is a strong differentiator.
  • Comfort partnering with data and analytics teams and working with research and behavioral datasets.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex or messy data into actionable insights for non-research audiences.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primary work in a fitness facility and office setting. Temperature variations can occur. The environment includes some ambient noise such as talking and use of gym equipment and machinery.
