Position Information "Be the Eyes Behind Every Successful Construction Project" The Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division, is looking to fill three (3) Assistant Construction Inspector positions. The position inspects various phases of wastewater construction projects that involve the installation of sewer lines and appurtenances to assure compliance with plans, specifications, and other contractual agreements. The position also inspects work for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including but not limited to, those imposed by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).

What You Will Do: Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements. Monitor construction activities including grading, paving, concrete, reinforcing steel, pile driving, and backfill. Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate project documentation.

Verify completed work for contractor payments and project progress. Enforce contract compliance by documenting deficiencies and coordinating corrective actions. Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions: Work in field environments with exposure to construction and traffic hazards, electrical hazards, paint fumes, sewer treatment chemicals, sewage gases, and moving equipment. Perform physical field work, including climbing ladders, entering trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying equipment, and walking on uneven terrain. May be required to travel to job sites using a City or personal vehicle.

Regular work hours are anticipated; however, may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations. Serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies. The Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Capital Projects Division is looking to fill one (1) Assistant Construction Inspector position.

The position works Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM and involves inspecting waterworks construction and installation projects to ensure materials, workmanship, and completed work meet approved plans, specifications, and Board of Water Supply standards. Depending on the project, the inspector may work independently on smaller assignments or assist a project engineer or senior inspector on larger, more complex projects. What You'll Do: Inspect construction of water system projects (meters, pipelines, structures).

Check materials delivered to ensure they meet contract requirements. Verify lines, grades, and elevations; use leveling equipment as needed. Inspect pipe installation and testing.

Review backfill placement for proper materials, compaction, and grade. Inspect falsework, formwork, trench bracing, and manhole construction. Inspect curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pavement work for reservoirs and booster stations.

Coordinate with contractors on specifications, workmanship, and routine construction issues. Work with design engineers on design changes identified during construction. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to a high school education. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: One (1) year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work. Examples of Qualifying Experience: Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trades supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Substitution: Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience: 1. An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university. 2.

A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university. The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States.
