Job description

Salary: $18 - $23 Hourly

TMGs Civil Laborer provides support and assists other field operations personnel with construction tasks for the civil crew (earthwork, site utilities, concrete construction, etc.). The role of Laborer II includes manual labor, errands, and escorting as needed, as well as assisting other trades to the extent necessary with hands-on work.

Scope of Civil Laborer I Position

Supports all aspects of civil-related construction tasks. Position reports to Civil Foreman or Civil Superintendent.

Essential Functions of Civil Laborer I Position

Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Must own all hand tools that are necessary to perform any and all tasks required by the position.

Responsibilities

  • Working cooperatively with the crew to accomplish tasks;
  • Maintaining tools, cords, and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use;
  • Maintaining the work area(s) in a clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis;
  • Consistently reporting for work on time and in appropriate attire;
  • Escorting individuals on various project sites and running errands as needed;
  • Assist in creating lists of materials, supplies, specialty tools, and equipment (proactively) that are needed to perform the work;
  • Make the Superintendent/Foreman aware of any material, supply, or other shortages on the job in a timely manner;
  • Participating in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety, and other skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 0-3 years of directly related experience in the civil construction field;
  • Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.);
  • The ability to comprehend and follow specific instructions;
  • Interpersonal skills that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organizational skills, the ability to plan, being dependable, and the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Must own all hand tools that are required to perform any and all tasks required by the position. (TMG provides all power tools except battery-powered screw guns and equipment.);
  • Must be able to lift and handle 50-pound objects;
  • Must be fully mobile and capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders and stairs multiple times daily to inspect work, direct subcontractors and TMGs own field forces, and assure safety and quality control;
  • Must have a clean driving record to facilitate getting materials from suppliers when necessary.
  • OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate preferred;
  • Current and valid drivers license with a clean driving record;
  • Must be able to be issued a badge to work at the project sites that have this requirement.
