Construction Inspectors often encounter challenges such as balancing strict adherence to building codes with project timelines, handling unexpected site conditions, and communicating effectively with contractors, engineers, and project managers. Job description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description:
Do you enjoy working outdoors and contributing to community efforts that make the world greener? Join Arcadis and help deliver world-leading sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. Our dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists work together to improve the green infrastructure of NYC! We are seeking a Construction Inspector to join our team and work on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This full-time position includes intermittent opportunities for overtime work. You will use your technical knowledge and experience to guide the City's tree preservation and street tree programs. As you grow with Arcadis, you will become involved with other NYC Parks programs and City agencies, focusing on urban forests and natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects. Further opportunities will present themselves at the state and national level!
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will conduct daily inspections, supervise, and control construction activities to ensure the overall safety of the site, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies is being maintained. You will closely monitor and supervise the performance of the contractors to ensure they adhere to technical requirements and maintain a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness.
In addition, you will be responsible for conducting on-site measurements, tracking quantities, and performing design work before and during the construction process. Discussions with the contractor over measurement updates will ensure all parties are in agreeance. These tasks will help you accurately assess the progress and quality of the project.
You will regularly report to the resident engineer, project lead, and professional engineer (PE) overseeing the programs to keep them informed. This will ensure effective communication and decision-making throughout projects.
Participation in a green infrastructure mentorship program is required where you will gain valuable knowledge and skills related to environmentally friendly construction practices, allowing you to contribute to sustainable and eco-conscious initiatives.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
  • Maintaining daily, weekly, and expert tracking records.
  • Verifying quantities and line items in field with contractors and client.
  • Holding and attending field meetings with both contractors and owners to discuss progress, schedule and work remaining.
  • Functioning as an ambassador for the city's urban forest resources during interaction with the city's residents and landowners.
  • Administering all H&S procedures as required by the owner and as detailed in the H&S manual.

The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint, along with excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written. You should be capable of working independently and collaboratively within a diverse team, effectively representing Arcadis and our client agencies in interactions with clients, local agencies, and the community. Proficiency in reading and understanding design plans, specifications, and shop drawing submittals is essential. Additionally, keen attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to be mentored and comprehend green infrastructure in NYC are crucial attributes for success in this role.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of related experience in construction and/or civil engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Capital Contract Supervision Oversight
  • Construction/Restoration Oversight
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • EIT Certification
  • Experience in the water/wastewater field
