Position Overview


JLD Enterprises is seeking a motivated Field Engineer / Layout Technician to play a key

role in our sitework, utilities, paving, surveying, and infrastructure projects.


This position is responsible for performing construction layout, surveying, curb layout,

verifying project elevations and grades, and ensuring work is completed accurately

according to plans and specifications. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, thrives

in a fast-paced construction environment, and has strong attention to detail.


Responsibilities

  • Perform construction layout and staking for sitework, utilities, grading, paving, curb installation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Perform curb layout, including verifying lines, grades, elevations, offsets, and radiuses.
  • Assist with field surveying and the collection of accurate measurements and site data.
  • Operate GPS, surveying, and construction layout equipment.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and survey information.
  • Verify elevations, grades, dimensions, and alignment throughout each phase of construction.
  • Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and reference points.
  • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews to ensure accurate project execution.
  • Document field measurements and maintain accurate project records.
  • Identify discrepancies between plans and field conditions and communicate issues promptly.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards.


Qualifications

  • Previous construction experience required.
  • Experience with construction layout, surveying, curb layout, GPS equipment, or civil construction preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, utility plans, and specifications.
  • Strong math, measurement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical tasks on active construction sites.
