Job description

Forde Construction is hiring experienced Class A CDL Lowboy Driver – Construction Crew to support our asphalt paving and construction crews throughout the Houston area.

This is not a drive-only position. In addition to safely operating commercial vehicles, drivers are expected to work alongside the construction crew, assist with jobsite operations, handle construction materials, and perform physically demanding outdoor work.

The right candidate is dependable, safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment. Drivers must be able to operate manual-transmission vehicles and will not be considered if their CDL includes an automatic-transmission restriction.

What You’ll Do

  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles on local routes
  • Transport asphalt, equipment, materials, and supplies to and from jobsites
  • Operate tanker, dump truck, flatbed, lowboy, or other construction vehicles as assigned
  • Assist the asphalt paving crew with daily jobsite operations
  • Help shovel, rake, spread, and move asphalt and construction materials
  • Assist around dozers, skid steers, loaders, and other heavy equipment
  • Load, secure, inspect, and unload materials and equipment
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Complete required logs, inspection reports, and DOT documentation
  • Maintain a clean and safe truck and report maintenance concerns promptly
  • Perform minor truck maintenance or troubleshooting when qualified
  • Follow all company safety procedures, DOT regulations, and TXDOT requirements
  • Communicate with supervisors, equipment operators, and crew members throughout the workday
  • Perform additional construction and labor duties as needed

Physical and Work Requirements

This is a physically demanding outdoor construction position. Candidates must be able to:

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds or more
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven surfaces for extended periods
  • Enter and exit trucks and equipment repeatedly throughout the day
  • Use shovels, rakes, hand tools, and other construction equipment
  • Work around active paving operations and heavy machinery
  • Work in extreme heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions
  • Work early mornings, extended shifts, overtime, nights, or weekends when projects require
  • Remain alert and safety-conscious in an active construction environment

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • Current tanker endorsement
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional commercial driving experience
  • Ability to operate a manual-transmission commercial vehicle
  • No automatic-transmission restriction on CDL
  • Clean and acceptable driving record
  • Strong knowledge of DOT safety regulations
  • Ability and willingness to perform physical construction labor in addition to driving
  • Dependable transportation and consistent attendance
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and driving-record reviews

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hazmat endorsement
  • Asphalt paving, road construction, excavation, or heavy civil construction experience
  • Experience operating dump trucks, tanker trucks, flatbeds, or lowboys
  • Experience hauling oversized or construction-related loads
  • Familiarity with TXDOT regulations and procedures
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic truck-maintenance knowledge
  • Experience working around skid steers, dozers, loaders, or paving equipment
