Overview

A growing mining operation in northern New York is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead site-level accounting and financial reporting functions.

This is a fully on-site operational role responsible for end-to-end financial oversight, including FP&A, cost accounting, reporting, capital project tracking, and ERP system leadership. The position plays a critical role in supporting operational growth and long-term expansion initiatives.

The organisation operates in a collaborative, non-corporate environment and is seeking a financial leader who values operational involvement, cross-functional partnership, and long-term stability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all site accounting and financial reporting activities

  • Own FP&A processes including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, headcount)

  • Oversee cost accounting and budgetary controls

  • Manage inventory cycle counts and accuracy

  • Track capital project spend and fixed asset capitalization

  • Ensure timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close

  • Prepare financial statements, compliance reports, and regulatory filings

  • Support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions

  • Analyse financial results against budget and forecast

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operating departments

  • Maintain strong communication with site leadership and corporate finance

  • Lead ERP system evaluation and implementation

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements

Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a financial leader (public company experience preferred)

  • Advanced Excel expertise (hands-on capability required)

  • Expert-level QuickBooks experience

  • Strong FP&A background including forecasting and financial modelling

  • Experience with construction project management and agile/lean practices

  • Proven experience selecting and implementing ERP systems in mining, industrial, or manufacturing environments

  • Experience with internal controls and SOX implementation

  • Knowledge of tax, transfer pricing, and IFRS accounting standards

  • Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA designation

  • Experience working in IFRS-based reporting environments

  • U.S. GAAP knowledge

  • Experience within mining, metals, heavy industrial, or manufacturing sectors
