Job Description Finance Director | NYC | Construction / Engineering/Architecture This is not your typical finance role-and not your typical company. Our client is a highly regarded, design-driven Construction/Engineering/Architectural solutions company for commercial and high-end spaces. They are seeking a Financial Controller to play a key role at the intersection of finance and project execution.

The Role This is where finance meets operations. You won't just report numbers-you'll drive project performance. As Finance Director, you'll partner directly with Project Managers and executive leadership to ensure projects are financially sound, accurately forecasted, and protected from risk.

What You'll Own Project Financial Management & WIP Lead monthly WIP reporting with accurate revenue recognition (POC) Partner with PMs on job costing across labor, materials, and installation Track project profitability and proactively flag risks Collections & Risk Mitigation Take a proactive, hands-on approach to A/R and collections Oversee lien notices, waivers, and compliance Manage bonds, insurance (COIs), and project-specific requirements (CCIP/OCIP) Operational Collaboration Act as a financial advisor to Project Managers Build and maintain cash flow forecasts tied to project milestones Drive process improvements and internal controls What You Bring 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience 3-5+ years within construction, engineering, architecture, or specialty trades Strong command of WIP schedules & Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting Experience with construction accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite) and advanced Excel Familiarity with NY construction laws (liens, bonding, compliance) At Empower Staffing, we are dedicated to connecting top talent with leading companies.
