Job description

Perform tasks involving skilled and unskilled physical labor at commercial building and heavy construction projects. Follow layout instructions, perform quality completion of daily tasks and coordination of other trade workers. May assist other craft and trade workers.

Essential Functions

* Coordination and in completion of daily tasks as assigned by Lead Carpenter

* work with construction crews as a team member.

* Read and follow construction drawing layouts/details and specifications.

* Knowledge of commercial construction and/or heavy construction trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials and specifications.

* Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.

* Material handling and storage.

* Load, unload, haul and hoist materials.

* Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor or Safety Director.

*Adhere to OSHA and MOSHA Safety Standards

*Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge and ability of proper use of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in commercial or heavy/highway construction work.

* Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

* Ability to receive, coordinate, and follow directions to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

* Ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 50lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

* Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.

* Ability to read, interpret, and follow construction drawings and specifications.

* Ability meet job attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Work Context

* Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside/harsh conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

* Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively climb, jump, sprint or throw an object.

* Must be able to have flexibility to go and stay out of town for up to a week at a time upon request.

* Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.

* Noise level is generally loud.

* Normal work hazards associated with construction environment.

* Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.

* This job may require you to wear a respirator and pass a respirator physical and fit testing.
