A Console Game Tester is responsible for playing video games on gaming consoles (such as PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo) to identify bugs, glitches, and other issues before a game's release. They follow test plans, document problems, and report them to the development team for fixing. Testers ensure the game runs smoothly, meets quality standards, and provides a great player experience. This role requires attention to detail, patience, and strong communication skills.
A typical day for a Console Game Tester involves playing pre-release versions of video games on various consoles, carefully documenting any bugs or issues encountered, and submitting detailed reports through specialized tracking systems. Testers often follow structured test cases but are also encouraged to explore games creatively to discover unexpected errors or glitches. Collaboration with developers, QA leads, and fellow testers is a key part of the workflow, as clear communication is necessary to clarify issues and verify fixes. Deadlines can be tight near release, so adaptability and time management are important. Over time, experienced testers may take on advanced roles such as lead tester or move into other areas of game development or quality assurance.
To thrive as a Console Game Tester, you need strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and familiarity with gaming platforms, often supported by a basic understanding of software testing concepts or related certifications. Experience with bug tracking tools like JIRA, test case management software, and familiarity with various console gaming systems are common technical requirements. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities help testers provide clear feedback and work effectively within development teams. These skills are essential for accurately identifying issues, collaborating with developers, and ensuring a high-quality gaming experience for end users.

Neurable is a funded brain-computer interface (BCI) startup spun out of the University of Michigan's Direct to Brain Interface Laboratory (UM-DBI); our technology, an artificial intelligence developed by our CEO Ramses Alcaide, BCI expert and PhD neuroscience, enables people to control hardware and software in real-time with their brain via a non-invasive cap. We have enabled users to control remote control cars, computer programs, wheelchairs, and more. Currently we are directing Neurable for virtual and augmented reality applications.
Our ideal candidate is someone who likes to think outside of the box. Here we try to encourage as much creative thought and innovative thinking possible. We are working in a field and creating a technology with functionalities that have never existed before. If you like tinkering, are curious by nature, consider yourself a technologist or someone who thinks several steps ahead...we would like you to join us, or at least meet us, or come to our office and play some video games (we have all the latest VR/AR technology). We are a small group adding to the banality of "work hard, play hard" but only because it is true.
Duties:

- Video games (we own every console from the ColecoVision, 1982, to the latest in virtual reality systems)
- Adventures (ask us about what happened one fateful night on Mt. Nacheesmo)
- Dogs (we have two in our office)
- Design, build, test, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable C++ code
