Job description

Mission Graduates increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of after-school support services that serve over 1,500 children, youth and families each year. Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception.
We are looking for self-motivated individuals who know, or are willing to explore, the Mission community and are passionate about working with youth. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals interested in community engagement, as well as an opportunity to form a meaningful relationship with youth and to support them through an important and challenging part of their lives.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Passionate about supporting young first-generation students to achieve the necessary Math skills to succeed in college
  • Comfortable with High School level Math (see below)
  • Willing to participate in the Volunteer Orientation with dates TBD. The mentor/mentee program will begin In January of 2023 and run until May 2023.
  • Able to commit to at least one hour per week to meet with an individual student for the academic spring semester.
  • Able to provide or obtain proof of a negative TB test from within the past four years

Tutor must be comfortable with:
  • Statistics, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus.
  • Basic Algebra skills: positive/negative numbers, fractions, rules of exponents, inequalities, parallel lines & system of equations.
  • Algebra II skills: function of a function (Linear Algebra - Composite functions), log and natural log, asymptote of a function & vertex and roots of quadratic function.
