Job description

Your work days are brighter here.

We're obsessed with making hard work pay off, for our people, our customers, and the world around us. As a Fortune 500 company and a leading AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, we're shaping the future of work so teams can reach their potential and focus on what matters most. The minute you join, you'll feel it. Not just in the products we build, but in how we show up for each other. Our culture is rooted in integrity, empathy, and shared enthusiasm. We're in this together, tackling big challenges with bold ideas and genuine care. We look for curious minds and courageous collaborators who bring sun-drenched optimism and drive. Whether you're building smarter solutions, supporting customers, or creating a space where everyone belongs, you'll do meaningful work with Workmates who've got your back. In return, we'll give you the trust to take risks, the tools to grow, the skills to develop and the support of a company invested in you for the long haul. So, if you want to inspire a brighter work day for everyone, including yourself, you've found a match in Workday, and we hope to be a match for you too.

About the Team

The Pipedream team is on a mission to arm AI Agents with connectors to third-party applications and APIs, unlocking tremendous value for Workday and its customers. We are the bridge between Workday's intelligent platform and the broader ecosystem of tools and services that businesses rely on every day.
Newly brought into the Workday platform, Pipedream offers something rare: the opportunity to work in a startup environment while delivering enterprise-scale impact. Our work powers integrations for both internal Workday services and external customers such as Perplexity and Meta. If you enjoy moving fast, wearing multiple hats, and seeing your work directly shape a product's direction, this is a team where you can do exactly that.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer on the Pipedream team, you will help expand the core capabilities of Pipedream Connect and its growing catalog of connectors to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customers. You will work across a diverse and modern technology stack - including Go, Node.js, Rust, Rails, Kotlin, SQL, Redis, and Kubernetes - and have the opportunity to continuously pick up and learn new technologies along the way.

Examples of the types of projects you will work on include:

  • Progressive and dynamic auth scopes to provide least-privilege connections for Pipedream Connect use cases

  • Service-level account connections for enterprise management use cases

  • Document management, normalization, and authorization capabilities across multiple third-party platforms

Your Growth at Pipedream

  • 1st week: You have familiarized yourself with the development environment and committed your first production code change.

  • 1st month: You have successfully delivered product features that require API and backend development.

  • 3rd month: You are the expert engineer behind a significant feature and have delivered the first iteration of that feature to users. You understand how this feature improves Pipedream Connect for developers and use data and experience to inform further development on this and other features.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related software development experience

  • 2+ years of experience developing REST/GraphQL APIs with a common web application framework (e.g., Rails, Node.js/Express)

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)

  • Familiarity with key-value data stores (e.g., Redis, Valkey)

  • Experience with techniques for scaling high-volume APIs

Other Qualifications

  • Skilled in algorithmic thinking, with the ability to design and apply step-by-step approaches to solve complex problems, optimize processes, and build efficient software

  • Proficient in API development, including designing, building, and maintaining APIs that enable integration with external systems and improve software modularity, security, and performance

  • Experienced in code testing methodologies such as unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing, with the ability to use testing tools and frameworks to ensure software quality before deployment

  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including designing, programming, documenting, testing, and maintaining applications and software components

  • Proficient with source control management tools and practices, including managing versions and branches, resolving merge conflicts, and ensuring changes are properly documented

  • Effective team collaborator who communicates well, contributes to a positive and inclusive team environment, and works cooperatively with others toward shared goals

  • Skilled in technical writing and documentation, with the ability to create clear, structured, and comprehensive documents that convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences

  • A genuine passion for learning and intellectual curiosity - you enjoy picking up new technologies and diving into unfamiliar problem spaces

  • Experience with JVM languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin), Go, and/or Rust is a plus

  • Experience building distributed applications on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we're combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
