Job description

Department Overview

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement, and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

The ideal candidate combines deep platform administration expertise with strong scripting, systems engineering, and database skills to build reliable, high-performance BI environments that support critical healthcare decision-making.

Function/Duties of Position

The Healthcare Business Intelligence (BI) Administrator is responsible for the administration, optimization, and operational support of enterprise analytics platforms supporting clinical, financial, and operational reporting. This role primarily focuses on managing Microsoft Fabric capacities and SAP BusinessObjects environments, with a secondary responsibility for IBM Cognos Analytics systems. This includes the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of these systems, which are leveraged in a 24x7, multi-server environment. 

Microsoft Fabric Administration

Overall responsibility for administering the centrally managed BIAA Microsoft Fabric capacities.  This work will require close collaboration with other administrators, architects, and stakeholders in analytics and engineering solutions.

  • Documentation: Maintain system administration documentation, ensuring that new processes are documented or scripted.
  • Performance: Monitor system health, performance, CPU utilization, and storage utilization. Resolve issues for optimal availability and performance.
  • Planning: Assist architects and product owners in the maintenance of system roadmaps for capability enablement and capacity management.
  • Provisioning: Set up workspaces and apply security configurations as directed by product owners and architecture.
  • Configuration: Update system configurations, enabling or disabling features as appropriate and directed. Create and manage Spark pools to meet engineering use case requirements. Ensure that all system changes are documented in our change management system.
  • Security: Coordinate with the system architect on the maintenance of security groups, workspaces, data gateway connections, and external partner user access. Maintain documentation in the service management system for all security-related changes.
  • Access: Troubleshoot and advise on user access requests.  Act as a subject matter expert on Fabric User Group entitlements. Submit access requests on behalf of customers on request via the IAM system. Support external partners in resolving access requests and issues.
  • Deployment: Support deployment pipelines by coordinating with DevOps vendors, architecture, and pipeline owners to ensure continuous deployment capability.
  • Incident Management: Work with developers and report users to resolve configuration issues as needed. Coordinate with team leadership on incident management, disaster recovery planning, and execution. Work with the PCAS team leader to communicate planned and unplanned outages.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with Microsoft Support vendors to assist in resolving any issues that cannot be resolved internally and to implement new services.

SAP BusinessObjects Administration

Overall responsibility for administering production and non-production operations for the SAP BusinessObjects platform at OHSU.

  • Documentation: Maintain system administration documentation, ensuring that new processes are documented or scripted.
  • Performance: Monitor system health and performance, resolving issues for optimal performance and uptime.
  • Planning: Assist architects in the maintenance of system roadmaps for upgrades and capacity planning.
  • Upgrades: Perform installation, upgrades, and patching in a multi-server, multi-tier environment. Cloning environments and content as needed for platform upgrades, as well as upgrades for integrated supported platforms and applications.
  • Configuration: Perform system configuration in accordance with vendor and architecture guidelines and maintain documentation of all configuration settings and changes.
  • Security: Coordinate with the system architect on the maintenance of security groups, departmental folders, data connections, and security profiles. Maintain documentation in the service management system for all security-related changes.
  • Access: Troubleshoot and advise on user access requests. Submit access requests on behalf of customers on request via the IAM system.
  • Incident Management: Work with developers and report users to resolve configuration issues as needed. Coordinate with team leadership on incident management, disaster recovery planning, and execution.
  • Migration: Support team-based delegated deployment management by ensuring that the deployment service is operational, performant, and configured optimally.  Monitor deployment operations to ensure conformance to system standards.
  • Scheduling: Monitor user-created schedules to ensure compliance with system standards.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with SAP Support for any issues that cannot be resolved internally.

Administration of IBM Cognos Analytics

Serve as the backup to the primary Cognos Analytics Administrator.

  • User Access: Act as a subject matter expert to effectively direct user inquiries about access and security groups. Working knowledge of how security is applied to folders, packages, and reports within Cognos.
  • Deployments: Perform report and package migrations using Motio tools.
  • Incident Management: Coordinate with architects, developers, and incident management leads to resolve unplanned system downtimes and performance impacts, and to communicate with stakeholders on the status of the incident.
  • Scheduling: Assist with scheduling recurring reports when needed.
  • Vendor Support: Work with IBM Support for any issues that cannot be resolved internally.

Required Qualifications
  •  Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and six years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR 
  • Associate's degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and seven years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR 
  • Eight years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate's degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

  • 2 or more years of paid work experience as a Systems/Application Analyst or Application Administrator. 
  • 2 years administering a Microsoft Fabric Capacity, administering capacity, workspaces, permissions, Spark clusters, and monitoring CPU utilization.
  • 2 years working with an SAP BusinessObjects environment, including administrative duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of data warehousing architecture. 
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain SQL Code at an intermediate proficiency level.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain PowerShell scripts at an advanced proficiency level.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and pipeline dependency.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain Python/PySpark scripts at an intermediate proficiency level.

Certifications

  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) on hire or within 6 months of hire.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) within one year of hire.
  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science.
  • 2 years administering an SAP BusinessObjects environment.
  • 2 years administering an IBM Cognos Analytics system.
  • Experience administering Business Intelligence systems at an academic medical center or healthcare-related organization.
  • 3 years working with load-balanced, multi-tier, on-premises, and cloud servers. 
  • 3 years SQL Server Experience, including SSIS and T-SQL, coding, performance tuning, and system optimization.           
  • 3 years working in a Windows VM Server environment creating PowerShell scripts, managing file permissions, and monitoring system processes.
  • Experience with HIPAA and PHI compliance.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain SQL Code at an advanced proficiency level.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain Python/PySpark scripts at an advanced proficiency level.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300).
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700).

Hybrid schedule: Has to come onsite 1-2 times per year, or up to 1 time per month.
