Systems Administrator

Location: Portland, OR (Onsite/Hybrid – based on team needs)
Compensation: $27-$35/HR
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours - MUST WORK PST HOURS - No flexibility
Duration: rolling contract - expected for 12-18 months

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Systems Administrator, will support a healthcare organization by maintaining and administering enterprise systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and security across the IT environment. This role is responsible for supporting system operations, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting with system implementations and upgrades.

This individual will work cross-functionally with internal IS teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to design, support, and optimize systems that support critical healthcare operations. The Systems Administrator will play a key role in monitoring system performance, resolving technical issues, and maintaining documentation while ensuring systems remain aligned with organizational standards and compliance requirements.

Success in this role requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, an ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving system-related issues. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to both daily operations and longer-term system improvements within a collaborative IT environment.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 2+ years of experience in a systems administration or related technical role
• Strong understanding of server and workstation operating systems and system administration principles
• Experience supporting system upgrades, configuration, and performance monitoring
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues and follow through to resolution
• Experience maintaining system documentation and tracking technical issues
• Familiarity with system security practices and adherence to organizational policies
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and escalate issues appropriately
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
• Experience working in a team environment and supporting cross-functional initiatives
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent experience (Associate’s + additional experience considered)


NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience with UNIX-based systems (HP-UX, AIX, or similar)
• Familiarity with system monitoring tools and administration utilities
• Experience with backup/recovery processes and data restoration
• Exposure to networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
• Experience supporting enterprise environments or healthcare systems
• Knowledge of scripting or programming in at least one language
• Experience with desktop tools such as Microsoft Office Suite

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support system administration functions including configuration, upgrades, and performance tuning
• Monitor systems and respond to alerts, incidents, and service requests
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across hardware, software, and system environments
• Maintain system security, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures
• Assist with system implementations, maintenance scheduling, and upgrades
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve performance and system issues

• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 system support as needed
