Job Description
Starting pay $20.08/hr
• Primary work location in Holden Hall.
• Oversee and assist in the preparation and serving of food and beverages in a snackshop, cafeteria, retail food courts, or concession event including set-up/break down of operation, and closing of concession locations at spectator and special events.
• Oversee issuing, delivery, receiving, and verifying food and supply inventories.
• Assist supervisor in assigning and scheduling support employees.
• Perform and oversee support employees in the set-up and/or break-down for athletic and special concession event stands.
• Assist supervisor in maintaining food and supply inventories.
• Requisition, inspect, and verify food and supply deliveries.
• Oversee and assist in the proper handling and storage of food and supplies to ensure efficiency of operations and the elimination of waste and spoilage.
• Operate a cash register and maintain controls for cash receipts during assigned shift.
• Operate motor vehicles to transport personnel, materials, supplies, and/or equipment for concession event operations.
• Oversee and assist in the operation, cleaning, and routine maintenance of preparation, cooking and serving equipment, such as grills, coffee brewers, soft serve equipment, and subveyors; reporting unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
• Oversee and assist in the cleaning of dishes, utensils and work areas according to prescribed sanitary standards.
• Recommend employment, promotion, and termination of assigned support employees.
• Instruct assigned support employees in food preparation and serving techniques.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If you have an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of your normally scheduled work hours remotely, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Required Qualifications
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Two years satisfactory experience at the Food Service Worker level, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
• Working knowledge of food ingredients, and correct preparation and serving techniques.
• Willingness to work a flexible shift as scheduled.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, and other team members.
• Ability and strong desire to deliver outstanding Spartan experiences to both guests and teammates.
• Ability to amicably receive constructive direction from chef/manager, and to professionally, quickly and efficiently implement same to improve product, and/or service.
• Excellent attendance
• Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations.
• Some oversight of and cash handling experience.
• Possession of a valid Michigan operator's license(s).
