Job description

Position Summary:

The Director, Patient Access & Reimbursement Director is a field-based position that works closely with physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, pharmacists and ancillary staff, as well as patients and caregivers of patients to prevent and address barriers to patient access,  as well as provide leadership to the Metabolic Franchise Patient Access Liaison (PAL) team on a national level. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Patient Services & Access, the Patient Access & Reimbursement Director collaborates with UltraCare personnel and the Ultragenyx Commercial Field Team, to ensure that the team is working in concert to have patients, physician's offices and partners gain access to therapy and support ongoing compliance with therapy. 

Work Model: 

Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx. 

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide leadership and management to a National Field Team of Patient Access Liaisons (PALs). 
  2.  Establish performance and development goals for PALs and monitor their progress throughout the year  
  3. Identify Access & Reimbursement trends and collaborate with cross functional team to address issues and in a timely manner and properly align resources (ROAR) 
  4. Ensure all Patient Access Liaisons are capturing all relevant data correctly in Patient Relationship Management System  
  5. Provide reporting metrics on a consistent basis in order to ensure all cases are moving along in a timely fashion 
  6. Organize and lead weekly team meetings with PALs and weekly meetings with counterparts that lead the Patient Engagement Centers  
  7. Monitor program processes to ensure there is efficiency and there is best in class customer experience  
  8. Create documents such as standard operating procedures, work instructions, training decks, etc. 
  9. Monitor all PALs reimbursement conflict resolution with their assigned accounts  
  10. Work cross functionally with internal and external stakeholders on any future franchise products 
Requirements:
  1. 10 years of related experience with at least 7 years of prior patient access and reimbursement experience required  
  2. 3  - 5 years management or experience training and leading peer groups as a mentor/new hire trainer 
  3. BA/BS in the life sciences or communications required; MBA/MHA preferred 
  4. Ability to travel 60 - 80%  
  5. Prior reimbursement experience with ability to communicate complex reimbursement scenarios to patients and medical professionals  
  6. Ability to problem solve complex reimbursement scenarios and recommend solutions 
  7. Highly motivated, shows initiative, is proactive and able to work within a team 
  8. Individual must possess extraordinary positive attitude, exceptional listening skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills  
  9. Ability to handle sensitive information
