What is a Computer Vision Remote job?

A Computer Vision Remote job involves developing and implementing computer vision algorithms and models while working from a remote location. Professionals in this role work on tasks like image recognition, object detection, and video analysis using AI and machine learning. They collaborate with teams via online communication tools and use cloud platforms or local computing resources for model training. These jobs are common in industries like healthcare, robotics, and autonomous systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Computer Vision Remote position, and why are they important?

Success as a Computer Vision Remote professional requires expertise in computer vision algorithms, image processing, programming (Python/C++), and a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with popular frameworks such as OpenCV, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, and sometimes certifications in AI or data science, are typically advantageous. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help remote workers collaborate effectively across distributed teams. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality solutions, meeting project deadlines, and excelling in a remote-first work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote computer vision professionals, and how are they addressed?

Remote computer vision professionals often encounter challenges such as collaborating across different time zones, accessing large datasets securely, and maintaining consistent communication with onsite teams. These challenges are typically overcome by using version control systems like Git, cloud storage solutions, and regular video meetings to stay connected and ensure alignment. Teams also rely on detailed documentation and code reviews to maintain project quality and foster knowledge sharing. At ANS, youโ€™ll enjoy paid vacation, sick, and personal time off; support for continuing education and community involvement; and comprehensive healthcare, vision, and dental benefits for eligible employees.ย
ย
We are transitioning our HV engineering group to SBS Substation Design Suite (SDS) as our primary production platform, and we are looking for the person who will own that transition end-to-end. This is not a draftingย roleย and it is not a pure IT role,ย it sits at the intersection of substation engineering, design standards, and production automation. The right candidate will be a substation designer or engineer with deep AutoCAD and SDS experience who can work alongside our discipline leads, delivery team, and technology group to build a scalable and high-quality design production system.
Key Responsibilities:
  • SDS Program Ownership:ย Own the SDS/SBS AutoCAD rollout roadmap, content backlog, and release cadence. Manage the transition from standard AutoCAD to SDS as the default workflow for standard substation projects.ย

  • Content Governance:ย Coordinate withย Engineeringย Leadsย toย maintainย block libraries, naming conventions, attribute rules, sheet setup standards, and template release controls.ย Ensureย every block, symbol, and template has an owner, revision date, approval status, and intended project type.ย

  • Training and Adoption:ย Develop and manage a role-based training program coveringย new users, checkers, project engineers, content owners, and production contributors. Trackย adoptionย metrics and report on progress against rollout milestones.ย

  • Technology and AI Integration:ย Coordinate with the ANS technology team on AutoCAD LISPs, automation scripts, and AIย integrations.ย Ensureย SDS outputs are structured to support automated checking workflows.ย ย

  • Cross-Department Collaboration:ย Work closely withย Engineering Leads,ย andย the technology and automation teamย to ensure SDS is integratedย properly intoย design workflow.ย

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Hands-on experience with SBS Substation Design Suite (SDS) or SBS AutoCAD in a substation engineering production environment. Candidates with deep AutoCAD substation experience andย demonstratedย ability to learn SDS will be considered.ย

  • Strong understanding of substationย designย P&C,ย Physical,ย orย both. Ability to communicate credibly with engineers and reviewers on content standards and design intent.ย

  • Experience managing or contributing to AutoCAD block libraries, template standards, naming conventions, or similar design content governance programs.ย

  • Ability to develop and deliver training content to engineers, designers, and checkers with varying levels of SDS experience, including remote teams.ย

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD LISP, scripting, or automation tooling is a strong plus. Experience working alongside a technology or software development team is valued.ย

  • Strong organizational and program management skills. Comfortable managing a backlog, setting release cadence, and communicating progress against milestones to multiple stakeholders.ย

  • Ability to work as a team player across disciplines. This role requires strong cross-functional communication and the ability to build trust with both engineering and technology teams.ย

  • Self-starter with strong internal drive and integrity. Comfortable operating in a growing organization where processes are still beingย builtย and ownership requires initiative.ย

Position Requirements:
  • Associate's or Bachelor'sย degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, drafting, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience in substation design with strong SDS/AutoCAD depth will be considered in lieu of a degree.ย

  • 5+ years of experience in substation design or a closely related field, withย demonstratedย ownership of production tools, templates, or standards.ย

  • Not required but Bonus Points for: Being fluent in Spanishย

Benefits:ย
  • 401(k) + company matchย
  • Health, dental, and vision insuranceย
  • Life insuranceย
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Professional development assistanceย
  • Bonus opportunitiesย
  • Supportive, growth-oriented team environmentย
