Job description

The Dodson Lumber Mill is seeking an experienced Sawmill Supervisor Trainee to join the team.  This individual will work with production and site leadership to add to the front-line leader pipeline.  This individual is responsible for participating in classroom, on the job training & other developmental activities to learn the technical aspects of the saw filing process, develop leadership and teambuilding skills, and prepare to compete and assume full-time shift supervision positions as opportunities occur.  This individual will train on various shifts and teams in a 24/7 operating environment and therefore must be willing to work any shift, including weekends and/or holidays, to be considered for this opportunity.

Key Functions:
    Role model safe work practices, ensure proper job and safety rules are understood and followed by all employees, and lead safety and other team meetings.
    Role model all standards/processes and on-the-job behavior by living our core principles of integrity, fairness, & creating a positive, inclusive work environment.
    Ensure the safe and efficient execution of work by teams.
    Participate in incident investigations and follow-up activities.
    Support, coach, and provide timely feedback and direction to associates.
    Participate in and/or lead unit initiatives and other assignments as required.
    Understand the saw filing process flow and provide solutions to issues.
    Own and/or contribute to other mill functions, such as safety or environmental initiatives
    Provide coverage for saw filing superintendent and lead saw filer during vacations and other absences.
    Responsible for supporting leadership to provide management and oversight of hourly production employees in a wood products manufacturing facility.
    Work with saw filing superintendent to assign work, evaluate job performance and set performance expectations for team members. 
    Other duties as assigned. 

    High School Diploma (some college preferred)
    Satisfactorily completed probationary period and in good standing regarding discipline and attendance
    Actively engages in site safety program
    Demonstrates the capacity and desire to move into leadership role
    Strong leadership skills that include a proven ability to coach employees to a higher level of performance. 
    Excellent people skills with a result-oriented focus required. 
    Good, analytical, planning, organizational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
    Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite & other computer programs such as SAP and UKG.
    Good judgment and decision-making skills.
    Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
    Physical ability to work in extreme temperatures and be ambulatory for the majority of an assigned 12-hour shift.
    Ability to learn and comprehend entire manufacturing process with desire for upward mobility.
    Able to perform all essential job functions including saw/knife/guide changes, lifting 2-20 pounds regularly, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, climbing steps/ladders, working from heights and in tight spaces within close proximity of sharp objects, and standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours.
    Prior saw filing experience, metal working skills and machine shop skills preferred.
