Job description

This opportunity will be an unpaid internship. 10-14 hours a week anticipated commitment. Free bus pass, skill development, flexible schedule, networking, and mentorship opportunity.

Projects will include:

  • Auditing, restructuring, and documenting physical network access
  • Updating hardware documentation
  • Implementing password management tools across organization
  • General help desk assistance
  • Additional tasks to be assigned as time permits

Skills that will be learned include:

  • Zero-Trust security principles
  • Structuring computer networks in a business environment
  • Network documentation principles
  • Project management and progress report principles
  • Microsoft cloud administration

Safety Statement

This is not a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) . The incumbent is required to fully comply with all safety rules and regulations established by Mountain Line.

Job Purpose of an Information Technology Intern

The Information Technology (IT) Intern assists Mountain Line's IT team to accomplish division goals. Emphasis is placed upon applying Information Technology best practices. Work may include installation, configuration, documentation, and troubleshooting of hardware and software. Close supervision is provided by the IT Manager who assigns tasks, gives preliminary instructions, reviews work in process and upon completion for quality and adherence to standards.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of Mountain Line's current IT initiatives.
  • Participates in data entry and quality control.
  • Assists in the research and preliminary analysis of initiatives and regulations (as needed).
  • Attends and observes public meetings.

Attendance should be regular and predictable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic IT concepts and best practices.
  • Knowledge of web-based applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive), Internet.
  • Knowledge of Business English, spelling, and arithmetic.

  • Ability to analyze and prepare technical data into clear and concise reports.

Working Conditions, Exposure to Risks and Physical Dangers

This position requires physical effort such as walking, lifting, standing, and manual dexterity. Requires lifting of computer and network parts that are big and heavy. Requires walking from one office to another, from one cubicle to another, or to other areas of the premises. Requires crawling under small spaces to trouble shoot computer units.

Because of the potential exposure associated with the work, incumbents in this job are required to follow all Mountain Line safety procedures, manuals, and guidelines. Additionally, incumbents are required to properly don safety-related clothing, protective hard hats, gloves, footwear, tools and equipment, and other safety-related gear.

Education Requirements:

Must be pursuing an IT or similar degree at a college or university; or have an associate or baccalaureate degree in IT or similar discipline.
