Nature of Work:
As a PC Support Technician, you would respond to requests via phone, email, and in person to support departments across the City of Rochester with their IT needs. This would include work with installs, supports, troubleshoots, and maintaining IT resources in the assigned areas, software, and hardware. This role is responsible for evaluating and resolving requests, documenting requests with relevant information, and if needed escalate requests to other members of the Information Technology team.
Work Schedule:This role is regularly scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm to support general operations at the City of Rochester. This position is part of a regular weekend rotation. This position requires 100% in-person work.
Pay:
The 2026 starting wage is $32.94 per hour with a maximum pay rate of $40.62 based on successful performance and time in the role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Install and maintain personal computer systems and related equipment and application and operating system software:
  • Maintain, configure, install, troubleshoot, and upgrade personal computer hardware and related equipment.
  • Install software such as client applications, operating systems, etc.
  • Replace when necessary, operating system and personal computer and related equipment.
Serve as troubleshooter for personal computer hardware and software problems:
  • Investigate and resolve problems with hardware and related equipment including printers, scanners and/or software.
  • Provide high quality customer service assistance and provide expert and creative solutions to problems.
  • Follow up on problems and ensure that they are resolved in a timely manner to customer satisfaction.
  • Create and maintain procedural documentation and assist in end-user provided training.
Maintain inventory of computer hardware and software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
An Associate's degree from an accredited computer science, computer technology, computer networking, computer/management information systems program or closely related field.
AND
Three (3) years of experience with Information Technology tasks such as installing and maintaining hardware and software and providing technical support for operating systems and various software applications such as Microsoft Office.
OR
An equivalent combination of education to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be substituted for the required amount of experience.
