Job Description
General Scope of Duties
Provide support to the classroom teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment. Assists the teacher in planning and preparation for daily activities; aids instructional efforts of the teacher and assists in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas.
General Duties and Responsibilities
1. Duties in relationship to individual children or in groups
  • Help teacher in curriculum implementation of educational program
  • Help with daily record keeping and appropriate reporting
  • Help teacher evaluate children as appropriate
  • Help teacher with case management
  • Help teacher in planning future placements
  • Maintain safe and organized physical environment for children
  • Help in data collection for research projects as required

2. Duties in relationship to other staff
  • Assist in daily set-up of classroom
  • Aid in implementing the programs of the professional specialists
  • Communicate effectively with team members
  • Maintain regular communication with Program Director, Laboratory Coordinator and teachers
  • Attend staff meetings when appropriate
  • Maintain positive professional work environment
  • Attend in-service meetings as appropriate

3. Duties in relationship to parents
  • Maintain informal contact with parents
  • Participate in parent social and educational function with other staff, conduct home visits when appropriate
  • Discuss child's program with parent and teacher when appropriate
  • Participate in formal parent conferences when required by teacher

4. Duties in relationship to college students
  • Help teacher in guiding college student classroom participation when appropriate

Education and Skills
  • High school degree required. Within four months of hire, the selected candidate must be designated as eligible to have unsupervised access to children in a child care center by the CT Commissioner of Early Childhood.
  • One year working with preschool age children necessary
