Peraton is seeking a Telecommunications Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and analysis of complex telecommunications systems that protect and power the National Airspace System. In this role, you will contribute to mission-critical systems that enable safe and reliable air travel across the United States. You will work alongside engineers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure telecommunications systems meet demanding performance, reliability, and security requirements in a highly regulated federal environment.

Work Location:

Our main site is in Herndon, VA. We also have an alternate site in Bowie, MD, but the ability to be placed there depends on site capacity)

In this position, you will:

  • Perform end-to-end systems engineering across the full lifecycle: requirements, design, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Support systems engineering activities across the lifecycle, translating requirements into system designs and verification plans.
  • Advise on integration, modeling, and trade studies to ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and security objectives. Coordinate with stakeholders to manage requirements traceability and technical risk.
  • Translate requirements into system designs and verification plans; support integration, modeling, and technical risk management.
  • Translate operational and technical requirements into robust system architectures, interface definitions, and verification strategies.
  • Develop and maintain requirements traceability matrices to ensure alignment between system requirements, design artifacts, and test outcomes.
  • Support system integration efforts, ensuring telecommunications solutions meet performance, resiliency, and security objectives.
  • Provide advisory input on telecommunications modernization efforts and infrastructure upgrades.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of systems engineering experience, including requirements traceability and verification/validation.
  • Experience in network engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure planning.
  • Proven experience supporting telecommunications or network-based systems.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications architectures, including IP networks, transport systems, and mission-critical communications environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with core networking protocols (BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, and IPv6), including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or similar platforms.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: INCOSE ASEP or equivalent preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.
  • Experience supporting federal aviation, transportation, or safety-critical programs.
  • Familiarity with large-scale telecommunications modernization initiatives.

Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
