Senior SCADA Systems Engineer - Operational Technology
Nammo Defense Systems, Inc., a defense contractor, is the primary USA operation of the Nammo Group (Nammo AS). Nammo Defense Systems Inc. (NDS) develops, manufactures, and supports Shoulder Launched Munitions (SLMs), energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aerospace structures.

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a Senior SCADA & Data Systems Engineer to join our operations technology team. This role focuses on connecting manufacturing equipment and processes to our enterprise data environment through the Ignition SCADA platform (by Inductive Automation) and SQL databases. In this role you will own our multi-plant SCADA and OT systems. Architect, build, and operate Ignition, OPC, MSSQL, and the supporting server and network stack. Partner with Controls, IT, and Manufacturing to deliver uptime, traceability, and actionable data.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SCADA architecture and development
• Own Ignition across plants, including primary/secondary and new instances.
• Build HMIs for control, labeling, traceability, transaction groups, and tag models.
• Integrate via Ignition OPC and Kepware.
Server and infrastructure ownership
• Operate ~15 production servers: Windows/Linux for Ignition, Kepware/OPC, Python, Node-RED, Grafana.
• Patching, upgrades, storage and capacity, backup/restore, incident response.
Databases and data engineering
• Design schemas and ERDs, stand up and administer SQL Server instances.
• Create jobs, maintenance plans, and verified backups; optimize logging pipelines.
Controls integration and triage
• Work with Controls to diagnose faults, walk ladder logic, trace I/O and comms issues.
• Guide fixes that cross PLC logic, OPC, network, and database boundaries.
OT networking
• Place PLCs/IIoT on correct VLANs, coordinate addressing and routing with IT.
• Validate OPC connectivity inside segmented networks.
Monitoring, alarming, and reporting
• Configure Ignition and Grafana alerting, escalation, approvals.
• Build dashboards and data exports for Quality, Process, Manufacturing, customers.
Reliability and change management
• Plan and execute upgrades and migrations with downtime plans and rollbacks.
• Document designs and RCAs; standardize templates for new lines and plants.
Follow standard practices and safety procedures.
Strictly adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

COOPERATION
• Work within Nammo’s cross functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineer, Controls, and Information Technology
• Work with external consultants and resources as needed
LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING
The Senior SCADA Engineer has responsibility for the OT network and owns the SCADA / MSSQL data collection system. The individual will act as the subject matter expert for Nammo’s SCADA and OT systems.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in a data-driven industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience with Ignition SCADA (or equivalent SCADA systems).
• Strong background in SQL Server administration, data modeling, and performance tuning.
• Programming proficiency in Python, Java, or C++.
• Ability to obtain BATF clearance
Preferred:
• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Automation direct PLCs
• Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements preferred.
• Experience with data visualization tools (MS Power BI) is a plus.
