Job description

Sr. Mechanical Systems Design Engineer

Company:

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Mobility, Surveillance and Bombers (MS&B) organization is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Systems Design Engineer to join the Air Vehicle Engineering team located in Oklahoma City, OK.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development and documentation of large scale, complex mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design

  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort

  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements

  • Serves as technical consultant for disposition, corrective actions and coordination with cross-functional groups to identify/implement solutions and drive strategic improvements relative to production processes

  • Works under consultative direction

  • Lead and provide technical quality review of the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid systems to establish the system design

  • Lead activities to validate and verify mechanical and fluid systems requirements

  • Lead the development, maintenance, or modification of system components' designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation

  • Lead technical meetings and planning efforts, presenting technical information to wide range of audiences

  • Manage supplier development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals

  • Prioritize, delegate, track performance and documentation of analyses of fluid systems/mechanisms/landing gear/ordnance components and systems selecting appropriate methods to validate or assess the design

  • Using a variety of media, clearly conveys information and ideas to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message

  • Support proposal preparation and new business development efforts

  • Train and coach others

  • Work under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Oklahoma City, OK.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 10+ years of experience with mechanical systems

  • 3+ years of experience working conceptual, preliminary and detailed design including 2D drawings and 3D deliverables

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance or higher

  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering schematics, and specifications

  • Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business)

  • Experience performing hydraulic / fluid system analysis, preferably using MATLAB and/or Easy5 software

  • 3+ years of experience designing tooling using CAD/CAM software, preferably CATIA

  • Experience producing technical reports and presentations

  • Strong written, verbal communications and presentation skills

  • Familiarity with engineering processes and methods

  • Experience working with cross functional teams

  • Experience with Model Based Development tools.

Summary Pay Range

Senior (Lvl 5): $143,650 - $194,350
