Job description

Job Summary

The System Performance Validation Specialist will support the Engineering team in the development and implementation of the campus energy micro-grid system. This role assists with solar installation oversight, energy monitoring and billing systems, cybersecurity, system testing, and other energy-related projects to help ensure efficient and reliable system performance.

Primary Responsibilities

System Installation and Maintenance

  • Assist the Engineering team with the development and implementation of the campus energy micro-grid system.
  • Support monitoring and coordination during solar facility construction and installation phases.
  • Help develop and maintain energy monitoring systems for energy usage tracking and billing.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting related to campus energy systems.
  • Support cybersecurity efforts related to energy management and monitoring systems.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management staff, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in system testing, troubleshooting, validation, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of system settings, wiring diagrams, maintenance activities, and project documentation for reference and compliance.
  • Assist with device networking and system integration.
  • Support dashboard creation and performance reporting tools.
  • Assist with electrical system control logic development and testing.
  • Coordinate with vendors, including Siemens and Goodcurrent, in preparation for system installation.
  • Support ongoing improvements to system efficiency, reliability, and performance monitoring.

Other Duties

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and reporting related to energy system performance
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly with engineers, supervisors, technicians, contractors, and campus personnel to ensure efficient facility operations and maintenance support.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards, building codes, and university policies.

Minimum Qualification and Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years experience in solar design, install, or quality assurance.
  • NABCEP or other solar certifications preferred.

Skills

  • Strong problem solving skills with a keen understanding of developing solutions required.
  • Clear understanding of the solar energy process.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards and local building codes as they relate to solar installations.
  • Understanding of utility-specific requirements for meter sets, labeling, and rapid shutdown systems.
  • Ability to multitask, and adjust quickly to new processes required.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with peers and others to ensure work is completed.
  • Commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous learning.

Approximate starting hourly rate: $16.00 - $17.00. The wage offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.
